he has yet to been named yet, but it will most likely be Z or Zinc.

He is VERY scared right now, and i'm just letting do his thing alone in the kitchen.

This is my first cat, and i'm kinda new at this whole process of making him welcomed and not as scared.

i know it just takes time, but hes so cute and i just want to snuggle with him heheh but he doesn't like the idea of being picked up right now.

I decided just to add a warning rather than get rid of the cuteness.

Oh, and to welcome the kitty, just pick it up, hold it, and love it. I think that'll make him more affectionate as an adult.

Congrats on the cute cat. How old is he and where did you get him from?

If you're looking for cat care and behavior information, the Usnet/Google group "rec.pets.cats.health+behav" is a good place to start.

Hey, don't worry, I have a cat (female however), that looks just like yours, currently only about 6 months old, and was reallllly scared when we got her. I actually posted a thread here on this same topic and got many helpful suggestions. Now, after about 3 weeks I'd say, she's a lot more confident, and lets us pet her (still doesn't really like being held though). In fact, she'll even come to us and start making this really cute, pathetic sound, and have us follow her to the house we got her where she'll lie down and wait to be stroked

Watch that cat close when closing doors. My wife closed our bedroom door with her foot last nit(had a armfull of clothing) and cought one of our cats tail in the door. Poor cat has to have 1.5'' of her tail amputated. Now the other cat is roaming the house looking for her sister.

Moral of the story, watch the cat when closing the door.

congrats on the little thing. Cats are (well, can be) so so so sweet pets. I have mine for 9 months now and I love her like a baby. Really, that kinda scares me. They only get 15 - 20 yeares old!!!

I can only second xeo.

Now that is a F A T cat!

And they are all cute. I took down all the pictures of my girl but she is a solid gray
domestic short-hair. Coming up on six-years-old, still a birder, and loves to lay on
my chest in these cold winter months. She is laying on the inside of my winter coat
I have spread open on my bed. I gave up almost everything else when I got divorced
but I got my cat and I got out of the marriage. My ex got herself a new cat but she
doesn't have my Roswell.

All the neighbors love her. When I put her out in the morning she goes visiting and
makes her rounds. Every day at 9:30 she waits outside the door of the retired woman
next door to say hello (and probably get a treat). She likes the one neighbor's dog and
goes out to greet them when he takes his dog for a walk. Most of my neighbor's know
me not by name but as Roswell's daddy. And that is fine by me.

<goes to give his kitty a kiss.>

Cool. When my GF broke up two months ago, the very first thing I said was: I take Ups with me. She also got a new cat, but as you said, it's not ups. I actually believe she will miss the kitty all her live (but not me ).

you have no idea, if i am at the kitchen table with my ibook and he wants attention he will jump on the table right in front of my screen.he will also do that to my wife, the other night she said he sat by her and put his paws on the hand rest of her laptop. he will jump behind the tv and play with the cords when my wife and i are trying to watch tv. when it is time to get ready for bed he will see me brushing my teeth and going into the bedroom, he will run after me and sit on my bed and look at me and whine, also try to bite me. in the morning when i take a shower he will sit on the toilet seat and wait for me to get out. he will wake my wife and i up on weekends if it gets past 8am (which isnt all the unusual for a cat). but he is a good cat, he will wait until he hears my alarm to go off in the morning before he starts to meow for food. cats are a good time.

I miss my kit, a Miss Chloe LaBelle Mae. (Claw-bell for short)....She stayed behind with the family when I moved.

Much cuter in real life, sweet personality....and she's an 18 pounder!! The vet said she's not overweight (she only eats normal amounts of dry food with the occasional treat), she's just a big girl!

So i let him chill alone for awhile, then a friend came over, and we took him out of the kitchen and he sat with us on the couch for awhile.
he hisses when you go for him but as soon as you touch him, he stops and he's the most lovable thing ever.

Congrats SOLIDAge! Time and talking to him will eventually win him over. Be sure to always use a nice tone of voice with him (not that you wouldn't anyway) - cats, like dogs, are actually pretty keen to people's intentions by the tone of their voice.

My cat, Simba (he squints in every photo ). He was just a few months old in this pic.

Another one from last year, keeping my daughter warm at night...

Today is actually his first birthday. He's much bigger now, but just as playful as he was as a kitten.

I have together with my gf (soon to be wife, wedding is on the 17th August on the Isle of Skye) 4 cats:

2 Tabbies (actually they are Scottish Wildcat hybrids - mum was a Domestic feral shorthair and their dad was a Scottish wildcat), nemd Diego and Galileo.

1 red Maine Coon girl named Neldereth (or Nelly), and 1 Bengal named Shiva

They can be seen here: Katzis.co.uk

I don't mean to spoil the cat lovefest here, but don't get the cheap rabies shot made by Fort Dodge Animal Health, get the (slightly) more expensive one, that might help prevent you cat from developping fibrosarcoma (look for 'Vaccine related fibrosarcoma')

I did not. I wish I had.

Very, very nice kitties. I don't think you need to get other photos (you mean the photos, right? :-)), these are really good. Capturing cats as beautiful as they are is a hard one!
