There is no generic problem. I have computers on 10.4 opening Office X and 2004 (various patch levels) on 10.4.

There certainly is some sort of problem. I've had terminal beachballing, crashes on open and on trying to 'find' things in long documents in Word, as well as the wonderful one, referred to here, where the Microsoft Error Reporter crashes as well - I think that's the funniest, as it means they will never find out about the problems . In all seriousness though, I'm thinking they had better fix it up soon, and maybe try for some better integration with Tiger while they're at it.

I noticed big improvements which I upgraded Office 2004 with the two patches under Tiger.

You may also want to check for corrupt fonts. I've seen something that seems unrelated easily bring down Word or Excel.

Open Fontbook.
Select/highlight all fonts.
Go to the File menu and click on Validate Fonts.
Delete the corrupt fonts.

That worked for me.

I was also amazed at all of the duplicate fonts that I had. Eliminated those as well.
