Apple has entered into a partnership with SAP, which aims to "revolutionize the mobile work experience" for enterprise customers, and increase the use of iPhones and iPads in business. As part of the enterprise, which will focus on creating native iOS apps using the SAP HANA platform, the two companies announced they will also supply an iOS software development kit and training academy, to help developers and customers in producing the apps.

The SDK is claimed will provide designers and developers the tools to create apps for iOS "based on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform," and will provide access to "core data and business processes" running on SAP HANA while also taking advantage of iOS-specific features, including Touch ID, Location Services, and notifications. Also part of the endeavor will be the creation of "SAP Fiori for iOS," a design language that will enhance the existing SAP Fiori experience to make apps created on the platform blend in more closely with other iOS apps.

While developers will get their own SDK to use, SAP will build native iOS apps itself for critical business operations, constructed with Swift but using the newly-introduced design language.

In a statement, Apple CEO Tim Cook calls SAP an "ideal partner" for getting iOS into enterprise, noting that "76 percent of business transactions" touch an SAP-powered system. "Through the new SDK, we're empowering SAP's more than 2.5 million developers to build powerful native apps that can fully leverage SAP HANA Cloud Platform and tap into the incredible capabilities that only iOS devices can deliver."

The two companies hope to start rolling out the SDK, design language, and academy before the end of this year.

These partnerships can only help get (and keep) Apple equipment in enterprise and government installations. Of course, most enterprise and healthcare installations have already spent money on their existing IT platforms and many/most refuse to spend money to make changes so we'll see how far this actually goes. My daughter is still waiting to see iPads used in the hospital she works in because their old Windows laptops connecting to Epic stink.

This is new and might actually work. I'll inform my daughter and see if she can check to see if her hospital is anywhere near the system requirements.

Of course, the typical disclaimer:

Haiku provides authorized clinical users of Epic's Electronic Health Record with secure access to clinic schedules, hospital patient lists, health summaries, test results and notes. Haiku also supports dictation and In Basket access. Haiku works on both the iPhone and iPod touch. (not iPad???)

Your organization needs to license Haiku and be on Epic's Summer 2009 version and will determine the exact feature set and any applicable charges for your use of Haiku. If you are unsure whether you can use Haiku, please contact your administrative staff.
(it would amaze me if they actually added Haiku but I'm ready to be surprised)

Anyway, there's a BUNCH of Epic app options. They may have a license for one or another. This is just the one they're using at a MegaHospitalChain here near DC.

This is what I'm seeing using latest versions of OSX and Safari. It's been consistent from your postings but I don't have problems with other postings on Macnn or other websites.

Is anyone else clicking on Mike's link and getting the server not found error?

I'm also using the latest OS X and Safari (vanilla, no plug-ins), and I tried it on safari too. Malcolm has just clicked on it in Chrome with no issues. I've also tried it (not logged in to my account) on a second Mac with no issues.

I've passed it to the web team, and I don't have a response yet.

It's been an ongoing issue for a very long time. If you paste a URL from the forum, the MacNN web portal drops the colon in the http:// protocol in the comments section.

It appears that pasting URLs from the comment section works. E.g. http://www.apple.com/
