Looks great, it's a nice evolution of the theme. What program do you use to apply the icons in that format? Do you do it manually? Candybar?

@ all : thanks a lot for the positive comments. For a moment I thought I'd been taken the minimalistic concept too far (which is why I left VOID3 available still). All feedback is welcome.
@ Ren Qian : I always make a guiKit for my system replacement iconset. Let me know if you want me to upload the file (combination of VOIDappEXT and VOID4).
@ number_six : please don't loose track, this is only version delta. We'll say omega on version 24, right ?
@ n00bsss : the font is uni 05_53 from miniml.com and can be downloaded for free. Please keep us posted about your Adium theme, I'd be happy to link.

Set font size to 8 px only (it's in the ReadMe), next open SystemPreferences/Appearance and turn off text smoothing 8 px and smaller. PM for more font issues, we're OT

Obviously, the Spotlight graphics are "VOID'ed".
I suggest you try a logout/login again, or a restart, or a restart with zapping PRAM.
Best of all -IMHO- would be to empty the SS Cache folder and reapply the theme.
Hope this will help !

Also, the VOID4 iconset (as guikit) can now be downloaded from my mac page

GuiKit for the icons would be awesome, if you don't mind. I have candybar, but prefer to use shapeshifter to switch my icons if possible- so much more convenient. Keep up the great work!

I know that Engrii from Minifonts.com works well in the menubar and I believe window titlebars (basically, anywhere the OS uses it at 13pt) And it doesn't look horrible when it gets scaled to 12 pt... I used to use it a lot. It's the closest to a nice pixel font, but it's much worse that it could be

ok.... Since VOID is really the only theme that I ever use, but can't now, I really really wish there was a universal instal for this theme.
And while I hear that there is going to be a beta of SS next month... who really knows?

Anyway... drooling from afar

Hey gerrit, I've (semi*) fixed my SS problem so I am now testing out the new VOIDness - it's looking minimaltastic!

I have one minor bug however, and that is that all the icons have a slight transparent white background to them, it doesn't show on my iMac's LCD but on the Barco CRT at work it really stands out.

Congrats on an excellent update, you keep managing to keep this theme fresh. I love the little arrows in the root menu items, first time I've seen someone use graphics up there!

Now where's that gott-damn SS update, Unsanity? I need to get my tweak on...

(* that is to say APE/SS are working again, but everytime I change themes or icons I have to empty the system caches with OnyX and restart for it to work. Grrr!)

LOL - yeah, a five-year-old Barco CRT.

I'm planning to replace it with an Eizo CG221 very soon though. Permission to drool granted.

Another word of thanks to all here ! Your appreciation goes beyond my expectations, I even left VOID3 available just in case…

@ siMac : (good*) news you've got SS to work again. About the icons : to make them clickable, the only solution I found so far is to add a transparency layer. I know it's noticable on relatively dark backgrounds, but hardly on light ones. Maybe the CRT behaves differently…
I'd be happy to hear about alternative solutions for a clickable icon.

Hmm, good point. Icons do tend to work better when they're clickable.

Shame OSX icons can't have independent click masks like other GUI elements. Damn OSX's lack of consistency, both visual and technical!

I noticed Stefanie Koerners pxlprt icon set has clickable transparent areas. Did she accomplish that by using the transparent layer you are talking about?

If you look close enough, you'll see a somewhat lighter background on both :

I'll soon ask Stefanie how she did her icons (we're working on a pxlprt update at this moment).

VOID4 updated to version 4.1

There's now a third "color" variant included, in which the white backgrounds were replaced by a very light shade of grey. This was particulary developped to achieve a little contrast between tool palettes and document working areas - in applications such as PhotoShop, VectorWorks, etc.
Aside from the background color, the scroll elements of the grey variant were modified a little.

Although VOID has always been about black and white, the introduction of grey elements in version 4 (buttons, menu item selection…) has approved the overall usability quite a bit IMHO. Hopefully, for some, this third variant will add even more visual support.

Preview grey version

And I suppose you could turn off AA with silk. I'm sure unsanity could find a way to modify each specific font instance so the pixel ones would only be used where they should be, but sadly that probably won't be till ss3

thx for the detail - I must use noisy DTs that I never noticed that before. Tough decision for the iconbuilder that wants transparent areas. On dark backgrounds that box becomes quite unsightly if the monitor gamma is tweaked too high.

Good news on the pxlprt too!!!

great update but I must say some of the AGVs in progress have some very tempting names...
IndustrialAGV, Prezzo, TechNico
you are a very busy themer cause some of those is PC ports
