Can you use PC2700 RAM instead of PC2100? Is the pin configuration the same in both laptops?

With my old powerbook, it was recommended by people on the powerbook forum to use PC2700 (even though the manual says PC2100) since it will have a higher resale value or be more useful in the future for newer laptops and computers.

Is it the same for iBooks?

Thanks.

I just bought a 1GB PC21000 200-pin SO-DIMM from Newegg.com that a reviewer said worked in his PB 12". The very same module works perfectly in my new iBook. Price was about half what the Apple Store would have charged me.

Which model iBook do you have. If I were you I'd go check out somebody with a PB and see if it reads the whole 1GB on their comp, if it does seems like your in for a refund for at least the difference.

It's not necessary to check the module in another computer. My guess is that he has an iBook with the 640MB upper limit (256 built-in + 512) on RAM. Mine is the newest version and can see up to (256 + 1024) 1.28GB. For that reason, his machine can only "address" the first 512.

The older iBook G4 models supported 1gb modules, even though Apple officially said it only supported 640mb. I'm thinking that maybe they sent you the wrong stick.

Perhaps. I'd be interested to know the detailed specs of that questionable SO-DIMM.
