I've seen EVERYTHING discussed except speakers for the G5. I realize it's up to the individual in what sounds best, but I need a push in the right direction.

First off, I just want to listen to cd's. It doesn't have to be (shouldn't?) elaborate. I'm clueless on the optical input/output plugs. Is that the only way?

What have you guys done?

Relax there skip.

He's a little antsy but he's got a point. You should check out a store and see what sounds most appealing. Now a days almost all stores have speakers on display for you to give a test run. If you don't want to go through all that, go with the JBL creature speakers. Good sound, great design, and decent quality.

Can you buy the soundsticks 2 without the subwoofer? I already own an iSub.

Nope.

Sell the iSub as the one that comes with the soundsticks is apparently better (and no bugs).

Nice set of 2.1s...

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...82E16836119105

Based off the 5.1s.. bit expensive for a 2.1 set, and they do look weird, but man they sound good -- I have a 5.1 set myself, those you can find in a few places as well sometimes (they got discontinued though)

If you wanted to go all out, you could splurge for a set of Klipsch Ultra 5.1s,

http://froogle.google.com/froogle_ur...2OpAAAAAAAAAAA

They don't come with a DTS decoder, but are some of the best 5.1 "computer speakers"

I'm using the Soundsticks that I purchased for my Cube. (Soundsticks 1 -- USB versions).

I *LOVE* them. They sound AWESOME. I can only imagine that the SS2 sounds even better.

Now if I can ever found the little USB speakerballs that came with my Cube then I can sell the darn Cube.

Oh there are a million and one ways to do a ste of speakers -- and a few amplifier boxes aimed for those who want to use regular speakers....

PASSIVE speakers though? You mean the kind that are essentially a gratified pair of HEADPHONES? I hope not... but that's up to you, lol.

If you're curious, I'll be messing with the g5's optical hookup in a few days.. and drop a few words here, perhaps

Yes, I'll vouch for Klipsch. Best sounding computer speakers I've ever heard. The ProMedia 2.1 and the ProMedia 5.1 Ultra are more powerful systems but lack digital inputs or built in decoders.

I'd suggest the M-Audio Revolution 5.1
Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating

Too expensive. This Altec-Lansing MX5021 are incredibly good and not that pricey.
