Tried that once (sudo mdutil -E / , right?), but I'll give it another try just for kicks.

I had the same prob recently, and I added, then deleted my drive from the Privacy tab of the Spotlight Prefrence Pane, and that caused it to re-index.

I was having this same problem as well. After a couple of reboots, it went back to being okay. Weird problem though. Damn Tiger.

Did the Tiger upgrade plus 10.4.1 on two machines - one shows spotlight working as it should. My iBook like the original poster shows no activity at all in the menu bar. As well, the Find command loads the window, but then spins endlessly with no results.

Finally, tried the Privacy tab in System Preferences but it doesn't even show the volume as dropped on the pane when I do it, so there is nothing to drag out of the pane to (hopefully) re-start an indexing process.

Any ideas? Other than that I have had no probs with Tiger on either machine.

Thanks for any advice

Richard

I didn't express myself well in one part of my question. I get spotlight in the menu bar, just when I type a word reference in there, nothing happens.

Hope that assists anyone with an idea about my problem.

Thanks
