Using Photoshop CS or CS2 (or PS 7)
==================================================

1.) Download the test image from http://www.quicklance.com/test.jpg

2.) Save it to the computer and then open it up in Photoshop

3.) From there please apply a 'radial blur' with the settings at:

Amount = 100
Blur Method = Spin
Quality = Best

Using a stop watch / ps timer see how long it takes to apply this filter

I just want to see what these new cpu's can really do.

Please list your cpu details, amount of ram and the time it took for the test, just so we can get an idea of how the different cpu's handle this task.

* test adapted from a different forum *

These are the results I got:
iMac G5 1.8GHz, 1GB - 2:00
Athlon XP3200+, 1GB - 2:15
Athlon64 4000+, 1GB - 1:25

Anyone got iMac G5 2.0GHz or G5 Dual 2.0GHz?

Wow 48-49 secs on G5 Dual 2.0GHz? i was expecting around 1:30-1:40 at best.
hmm maybe under 30 secs on Dual 2.7GHz? (latest AMD Dual Core Athlon X2 4800+ still takes 35 secs, if i remember the result from other forum correctly)

I thought the actual performance difference between G5 2G iMac and Dual 2G was very small but i guess i was wrong. Anyone got single G5 2G?

G5 DP 2.0

Radeon 9600 128mb

w/ 1 CPU disabled -- 1:39
w/ both CPUs yes! -- 0:49

The second processor really helps.

256 MB RAM with illustrator, firefox, and office in teh background? That's hardly fair... it had to be paging like a mofo, as photoshop and illustrator are both real pigs.

You should slap another GB of RAM in there if you actually want to run photoshop on that box!

30.0 seconds using stopwatch - note that using the PS timer adds 2-3 seconds for some reason. I read what the reasoning was on the net but dont remember now so for testing, stopwatch is more accurate in CS2.

32 seconds between a 3 Ghz PC and a 1.5Ghz laptop isn't much, now is it? Besides that was just a rendering filter that didn't even use up 350mb of ram.

People are saying more ram. But when I ran the filter, Photoshop only used about 300MB of memory. I even adjusted the memory setting so PS could use about 1.7GB of ram if needed and I still got the exact same time on the filter render.
