As for the suit issue, go for a quality tailor made. Great fit beats a name brand every time.

So do I. And I show them that respect by bringing my most honest self to the table. Nothing more disrespectful than a placating front.

And thinking you are showing people any kind of "respect" when you wear something that they would like to see you wear is just...well...not respectful I guess.

Maybe that's because you constantly run outta arguments when people don't fall for your lame a55 "faux" pretentiousness.

Warung, have you eve been to a wedding? A funeral? A formal social event? An important business meeting?

If not, then what do you consider formal? If so, what do you wear?

Late to the party: Tailor made, no contest.
A well made suit will outlast, look better and feel better than anything ready to wear.
I also have a couple of tailored shirts, there is simply nothing like it.

One of my goals in life is to have enough money to have my shoes made to measure.

Whatever I feel like wearing that day. Haven't been to a funeral in a while. I guess it depends on whose funeral it is. *g*

For a wedding I might wear a pair of Koils, a Hugo or Brad Stallion Shirt, Jeans or a pair of "dressy type" pants. Also depending on the time of the year.

To the last social event I wore a pair of camo pants, Chucks and a really, really nice Cinque shirt. In the summer I'd wear a nice T-Shirt too though.

I don't think I'm showing these people respect, because they want me to wear a suit, I show people respect by wearing something that fits to such a festive occasion. In the case of my grandmother (as an example) you seem to think that it's an effort to wear something I usually wouldn't wear. The truth is I don't care, I could show up in something more casual and still do the same. I don't mind wearing a suit and I don't mind not wearing one.

It would only be disrespectful if I would wear a suit, but hating it. I don't. From your perspective (as a person who obviously doesn't like wearing a suit) it would be, from mine, it's not.

Anyway, on topic: I get away with wearing jeans and a jacket most of the time, even in client meetings. One of the benefits of having 'Creative' in my job title.

On special occasions I love wearing a well tailored suit. It makes me feel different from my every day life, and surely that's the idea behind a special occasion. We're off to an Italian wedding in a couple of weeks and you can bet the farm that people will be well dressed. I am hugely looking forward to it.

Same here Mastrap. I can basically wear what I want. And I do. Don't even need a jacket.

I had one at one time... it got ruined at a party... long story. Dates fault.

I should look into getting another.

How does a suit (objectively) "fit" a special occasion in general? That's what I'm contesting.

Don't get me wrong. There are some very nice suits out there. BUT, I think it is absolutely stupid to believe that a suit is especially festive or appropriate simply by the virtue of being a "suite".

Could be, or couildn't be. Fact is, for most people it is. That's why there are "dresscodes", - or do you see many people wearing a suit to go shopping at the super market...

Warung, you started derailing with your pretentious condscending banter of anyone that talked about wearing a suit.

Can you not see and understand what you are doing when you do these things? Is it that oblivious to you?

The way you get treated is a DIRECT result from how you react to others in here.

What is this? Queer eye for the striaght guy?

Some people like suits.

Deal.
"brilliant" post of yours that "started" it. I was just giving my opinion on what I thought about "tailor made-" vs. Hugo Boss suits. That was all.

Of course you had to come in here and troll it all to sh1t.

Warung, I am sorry. That bike just peddles foward.

He was asking to get a Hugo or a Tailor made. You from the start went on a inchorerent ramble about how you thout how the suit was "Cultural Icon" that has outlived it's stay, then went on to berate anyone that disagreed with you.

IN WHICH I replied to you with the post you quoted above. Your little tirade started well before I posted in this thread. The fact you do no see this, does indeed tell us you are oblivious to how you are percieved by other people, or you are just trolling.

AGAIN, the way people respond to your posts has EVERYTHING TO DO with what you post.

You don't like people responding to you in a codescending way? Don't do it yourself.

It's that simple.

Now come back, spin it in another bizarro backpedal that you do so often (Not very well I might add) and act all offended. You know you want to.

Strange. I can remember this

Get the "Hugo Boss" suit. I really haven't seen that many tailored suits that lasted (fashion wise).
being my first post. I had no trouble discussing things, even if not everybody agreed with me (such is life), - until you and MacNSwine came in and turned everything into a complete and total flamefest.

Please Warung. You play the victim about as well as Ca$h does.

When you treat people like jerks inthe condescending way you do, people are also going to treat you the same way.

You are one of the biggest flaming personal attack throwing posters in this forum. So for you to get upset that you are now, getting busted for it, is very comical to say the least.

Meh. I'm done with this. Good thing, unlike you, OreoCookie, Randman, PB2K etc. at least made some interesting points.

BTW, do you know anything about fashion? No? Then this thread is now officially about "HoHos", something you undoubtably know a lot about.

*ding* Another one! That was much more enjoyable than the last 4.

Of course, he doesn't realize that the only people I treat that way are the wankers (no offense Eug) who are acting like t***s to begin with. Oh well, as they say, good riddance to bad rubbish.

A suit for me means extra effort, go the extra mile to show an occasion is special, it's a sign of appreciation. `Fit' is certainly something cultural and contextual (I wouldn't wear a suit to a friend's birthday, but to a friend's wedding I would), but for me nice pants and a nice shirt (which I wear pretty much most of the time anyway) just doesn't cut it, that's every-day attire for me.

Yes, that's why I added `adequate'. A suit is attire for a special occasion. Going shopping hardly qualifies. Unless you seem to think buying toilet paper and radish is a special occasion
