This may be old news but I was just at the Quark site and noticed that logo they stole last year for their new identity has been replaced with a new, less-elegant mark. Wonder if they were served papers for stealing the corporate identity in the first place. Regardless, a foolish move when your target market is the advertising and design community. Makes it tough for them to crack down on people pirating their software when they're stealing publicly.
If you're not acquainted with this have a look at:

I actually think this one's kinda funky. Of course, had they hired ME, none of this would have happened.

I like the new new logo. It does remind me of the SE logo and the forest green is a good color. It is an identifiable yet unique logo. Good design.
Oh and, for those of you bigmouths who think it is bad and call yourself designers. Let's see what you can do. Make a Quark logo and make one that's better than this most recent one
As in, put your money where your mouth is.
cheers

That's funny, I wonder if they used Adobe to design a quark logo. Hmm...anyways, I too, like nica, waiting to see those logos.

This is a poorly designed logo. Well designed logos can be reduced without losing quality. In some instances a simplified version of a mark is used. In this case the designer(s) put a highlight on the logo that appears at approximately 10:00. When the logo is reduced, as in on their site, it looks like a mistake. In fact, until I saw the logo blown up on another thread, I thought this was a mistake. SEE: http://www.quark.com/
Weyland: Dropping my paying work to do a Quark logo would make no sense from a financial point of view. Additionally, it would not change the fact that Quark stole one nice logo then came back a few months later with a crappy one.

maybe a stuck pixel?
i think quark uses its terrible logos so that they stay active amongst the mouths of designers (any publicity is good publicity right?). then they pay weyland to scour the net, find all the trash talk, and clean up their mess. how is the yearly salary now a days weyland?
by the way, this is highly unprofessional of me, but i think i got a shot for next years logo...what do ya guys think?

A-D,
To use your tag line:"Quark. Searching for a clue", we could modify Sourbook's terrific logo. How about :
3/29/06: DUHHHHHHH!, I just noticed Sourbook's logo is the same as the one used for "Spotlight" in OSX 10.4.
Well, I've never been accused of being fast

I prefer the older logo to all the new ones...
It's just a logo...
I also wish they had a little CMYK in there... without it being too tacky.

Graphic Design 101 at any reputable learning institution will teach prospective designers that a logo should look good when very small and when very large.
Now, let's throw that general rule out the window for a moment and consider what Quark has done. Let's see, to W-Y's point, when large the dust speck is a highlight when you blow the logo up. Then when used small, as Quark has done on their own site, it looks like a hack mistake.
Look, W-Y, you obviously don't know diddly about real world advertising and design. Your many posts are proof of that. Kindly stick to what you do know, what ever that may be.

the only reason anyone would even confuse you for a designer would be that you chose such a brick-subtle username on these forums. In all other cases you act like you're an Adobe salesman or worse an Adobe zealot who spams forums with non-sense information and FUD about the industry standard app in layout. QuarkXPress.
I couldn't care less what you think of the Quark logo, not the least because you're a talentless wannabe designer who doesn't know a pica from a point. Get a life pal and let us pros work with the real tools making the big money.

Between your posts about PDFs and your general lack of knowledge about what a good brand mark is you've proven you know nothing of this business. I won't be wasting any more time on you.
