j'anlee-- I honestly felt I should have been listening to Richard Strauss's "Also Sprach Zarathustra" when I saw your pics. Beautiful use of bokeh. What camera did you use?

Beautiful in it's simplicity. I have monitor envy......that thing makes my little 20" look positively feeble!

Is that a desktop background that you put together or is it a dashboard widget? If it's a widget, which one?

Thanks everyone. You guys made my day.

Macuser, The wallpaper is something I made. I'm a photographer and came up with the idea as a way to show my work without having to open images all the time. At last count I had close 400 different wallpaper images and the computer gives me a different one every morning.

When I started it turned out to be more work than I had bargained for but I'm glad now that it's done. It really does require a 30" monitor to look right, though. Shrinking the photos down to fit on a 20" (or anything in that range) just does not look as good. The images just get too small.

Hey macimum,
For everyday stuff, in the 35mm category, I primarily shoot with a Canon 10D and Canons 16-35mm L lens. Studio work is done with a Sinar 4X5 view camera.

I assume by the question that you like photography also. If so, what are you using?

It's just the side panel you can take off to add ram, expansion cards, harddrives, etc. No hack, just pulling a lever on the back and it pops right off.

wouldnt that be a bit dangerous to have it open all the time?

i mean

"oh, i am thirsty. i'll think i'll reach over for that cup of coffee. **BANG** Oh my god, my beautiful powermac. WHAT HAVE I DONE? OH DEAR GOD NO."

or do you have it open like that just to show off your quad or dual proccessors when taking pics?

I leave mine off because the inside of a G5 looks so cool. There is a clear plastic panel between the outer side panel you can remove and the inside of the case. It is actually there to direct airflow and is removable also if you need to get into the case to add RAM etc. Because it MUST be left there to direct airflow (if you want to leave the side panel off) it obviously doubles as a protective panel against outside intrusions into the case itself.

Nice G5 you got there Lee, what do you need a G5 for? From what it looks like you use it for some pro work cause of the droolworthy 30" display.

Hey G5,
Thank you sir. Per the what do I use it for question - I am an advertising product photographer. I also do Photoshop work for local businesses here in Phoenix. Do I need the 30" to do that? No, but I ain't getting any younger, buddy, so said "what the hell" when it came time to buying a new system. I am hooked now. If I could afford two I'd get a second one. One side for my Photoshop windows and tools and the other just to work on the images. It's really amazing how you get used to a certain size and then all of a sudden, at some point, you're saying to yourself, "I need more real estate here." LOL

Hey, sorry about the long response time, I have been having some serious problems with my G5.

i love photography, I love my Nikon D50 for Digital uses, but I have a Nikon N70, and 6006, but I am still in love with my Minolta x-700.

Yeah, I'd say you are serious about your photography. That's some nice stuff there.

Sorry about your problems with the G5. I know how that feels . It's like losing my left arm when my system goes down.

Here is mine since I redid everything.

Have a Dual 1.8 Ghz G5 Tower, a 12 inch 1.33 Ghz Powerbook, a 15 inch 1 Ghz Powerbook and a 15 inch Macbook Pro 2 Ghz hiding in the picture in various places. Use it for recording music and doing some light web work. The monitor is a 20 Inch Apple Cinema Display (CRY TO BRING BACK THE ADC!!!) and a 20 inch Sharp monitor.

Na, it's actually a Keystation 49e with a Triggerfinger on the top. I don't have the oxygen 8 up yet what I want to do is get a small two tier stand for it and for the bcf2000 mixer (and maybe another for one of my other mixers). I went from analog to the mac and need to add the analog stuff back.
Better pictures of the music stuff here http://americanflannel.com/site/?p=162

I am upset just found out my Mac doesn't work well with the UAD-1 cards. So I don't know what I am adding next.

Isn't there an update you can get done on the card by UAD or have you had that done?
