I am sending a desperate plea for anyone who can suggest anything to help with what is such a simple process on the surface.

I am trying to configure POP mail on my iPod touch. I have used this account on more devices than I can count over the last 5 years. All of my ISP settings have been checked and rechecked until I can type them in with my eyes closed. Each time I try and connect I revieve a message that the server is not responding and to confirm the setup. Of course the server is working fine on about 5 other machines in the house with exactly the same setup and credentials.

I rarely call my ISP support line as I am an old hand at this, but I actually did it this week. Of course all they could do is confirm my settings.

Is anyone having any issues using the iPod touch and 1.13 to get POP mail? This is for my wife or I would just use my gmail account and be done.

Have you tried resetting/restoring the device?

I set up a google mail account directly on the ipod touch, and it was really flaky, same problems you described. The next time I synced my ipod to my computer I configured itunes to sync with the mail accounts that I used on the computer (same google mail account, and a college email), now mail works perfectly with both accounts. Might be something to try if you set up the email account directly on the ipod touch.

You could determine more conclusively that there is a problem by installing the same POP3 server locally, and monitor your logs while you connect to it from your iPod
