What is it supposed to be? Could you explain...
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive.

Good eye! It's an icon badge of IE imposed on a minimized window. The application badge has been superimposed on the window for clarity!

You can make it out if you enlarge the image...

Here is something else I am trying to figure out. Are those still triangles under the running apps or half circles?

yeah... i think they are triangles...

here is something else... As far as "I" experience, I cant get a pop-up from a folder in the dock and then still move the mouse around the dock and have it react to my mouse by magnification.... is this a doctored image?

It isn't a spinning gumdrop -- why would they have it in a carefully tailored picture. If you were to doctor a shot to show off the best in 10.2 would you include a gumdrop?

Yep, you'll also notice the menu bar menu is pulled down, Apple doctors them to show many features that would usually take 3 or 4 shots.

Yes, that image is quite clearly doctored. You can't have a menu from the menu bar and a menu from the dock on-screen at the same time normally...

What about the Tiangles? Did they bring back the half circles?

I think these icon badges are a great addition...it'll make it much easier to find the window you want from a whole bunch of similar looking minimized windows.

An icon badge is simply the overlay of the application icon over a minimized window. It helps clarify which windows belong to which apps. Personally I always thought windows should minimize next to their application icon and forget all about having the dock split.

Zooming in, looks like an "icon badge" of IE to me. Over a minimized window of of Apple's iMac or eMac page.

Also notice that there is no badge on the minimized QuickTime windo. Perhaps this is simply an oversite on this crafted 'screen shot', or perhaps this feature hasn't been globally inplemented yet.

It's pretty damn obvious that's a Quicktime window. You don't need a badge for the obvious.

Besides, how would you be able to watch movies in your dock if there's an icky badge on top?

Duh actually now I'm 99% sure it's the www.apple.com home page showcasing the eMac. With the IE "Icon Badge." Natch .

Remember though that the quicktime window does custom drawing so the video can keep playing in the docked window.

Or "behind" the app icon, like (sorry) XP. Only that minimized windows appear on rollover of the app icon, and with a preview of course, like they currently do on the right side of the dock.

A cigar and a free holiday to whoever spotted that. Oh..it's 'me'. Hooray.

That's a very welcome little feature. By the way, one plus side of the brushed metal look that everyone appears to despise, is that it looks a bit different from all the white icons when minimised. Ok - not a big deal...

I'm compiling a little list of the things in 10.1.5 and 10.2 in (Not Lotus) Notes and it's getting mighty long. No one article seems to cover everything that's going into these releases. I mean, I'd almost forgotten about things like the Open With... menu.

True...there was lots of small features that didn't make it into Stevie's presentation. I'm sure there was lots of under-the-hood optimizations that wasn't mentioned. And some things that will show up in 10.1.5 such as faster iDisk access and such.

With the new Finder that is more properly threaded, GCC 3 recompile, Quartz Extreme, core optimizations, I think most G4 computers will handle OS X 10.2 quite well. Most G3s might not get Quartz acceleration but will benefit from some of this stuff and make OS X much more tolerable, hopefully.

Amen to that.

I won't get Quartz Extreme on Powerbook, but the rest will likely sort out 90% of my little gripes.

I love the way everyone is analyzing these super-low-res images for details. It's like looking for evidence of the Loch Ness Monster.
