Yes, that's right.

After being a free loading student/un-employed/whatever using Photoshop 4, 5, 5.5 & 6 whithout paying anything to Adobe I decided to actually buy Photoshop 7.
I don't recall what an Adobe manual looks like, guess I'll find out in '1-2 business days'.

Next on the list is a Mini DV cam, then a 3D modelling/animation package.

oh, and to go off topic, my feet STINK!!! now, where's that vomit smilie

I bought the upgrade and used a serial # from work. They don't use it anymore.

Only somewhat related: I bought a copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver, even though I know I probably could have found it for free somewhere.

I figure it's the best program I've ever used, ever, so it was worth it. Actually, the education discount was the thing that made it worth it.

X.

Congratulations!

I think this definitely tends to happen as people come into more money, grow up more, etc. Mostly the money thing

Once I get some dough I'll be looking at getting the newest Photoshop, Illustrator (if Adobe can get it as good as Illustrator 8), and maybe even InDesign. I also hope to update my (legit, but old) versions of Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Even Fireworks 4 is a big step up from 3, and I really like the MX version, the bit I tried in the demo.

As for 3D program... might I suggest Carrara? I long to try out a new version of that, too, with its new specular lighting system... its results are among the most realistic I've seen.

Think I must be growing up, or at least becoming 'more' honest.

Up until a couple of years ago, the only bit of software aside from games and stuff I ever remember "paying" for - as in, it didn't come free with anything, bundled etc - was Aaron, that Platinum maker extension. Hell man, I was young!

Now I own proper versions of proper programs, and sometimes get a sweet little glow about me, saying "Hmm, if the cops raid me or whatever, at least they'll not be able to do me for that!" (Must remember to trash all those 'back up' copies I've accumulated over the years though - Think I've still got a hacked Photoshop 1.0 somewhere...)
Hark, I hear a robin sig'ing in the trees!
Nae, there is no sog to be sug,
or am I wrog? Why can't I sig?

Photoshop is the final program on my list to buy when money becomes available. In the past few months I have bought Macromedia Studio, Acrobat and Final Cut Express. Yeah..I'm broke...

EDIT: oh yeah, and transmit..but that was cheap

Or you could decide against being a criminal and buy PS Elements - if you don't work in the publishing industry, PS Elements is all you need, and it's only $100.

When you buy and educational version of Photoshop you can't use for commercial purposes, right? Just for learning.
Well, what if I purchase an upgrade at regular price? Still can't use for commercial purposes? It keeps the same serial number as the educational version?

If you're making money off of it, use the first $600 you make to buy a real copy just to cover your ass.

I needed Lightwave for a 3D animation class I am taking. All the college book came with was the demo disk...f*ck that. So I too am forced to "buy" most of my applications. "Buying" stuff is sweet.

You know? I had a feeling you'd say something like that

I like the thought that my buying Photoshop gets all the little people working on the Mac version another 3 seconds pay. Or something like that.

Don't mind the people like cipher13. From what I've read of his posts he rarely has anything constructive to say. Have fun, I'm tempted to purchase P7 for the sheer fun of cutting and pasting of layers but the current $600 is too steep for that. All I really need is Elements and at $25 after rebates it's an excellent program.

What are you a cop?

No actually, but for home users it is sorta stupid to buy it unless you have more money then you know what to do with or are really religious.

Guess that makes me reallyi religious?

hehe

I have PS 5.5 LE, and I have PS Elements 2.

I also have the edu priced Macromedia Design Studio with Flash 5, FreeHand 9, and Fireworks and Dreamweaver 3.

I love all my software, and I don't buy more unless I can pay for it. I think it's just honest, I shouldn't use someone else's work if I havn't paid for the right to use it. Just like I won't download an artist's work unless I"m willing to pay the people involved in the process of bringing it to the consumer who I grabbed it from.

By the way I commend you on your purchase of Photoshop, it's a great program I hope you enjoy the feeling you get from having contributed to an industry instead of just being a leach.

I've been using Photoshop since I bought the edu version of 3.05. I still have the FLOPPIES that it came on. I like to actually own the software that use. I guess that makes me religious... Hell.. I even pay for shareware if I really like it...

It's true that packages like Photoshop are expensive, but there is a way round paying these prices - if you think it costs too much simply do without it. Or do you think you have a "right" to it? I apply the same principle to cameras, first class air travel, and Ferraris.

I don't have a problem with people "Trying out" software that they may or may not use much, but if it's something that you use all the time, you should buy a copy. All sorts of people make their living selling this stuff, and if Adobe can't make any money, then their won't be a better version down the road!

I use Photoshop quite a bit, and own it!

Are you equating honesty and morals with religion?

I disagree that it is stupid for home users to buy it. It is honest and moral. and quite simply the right thing to do.

I have purchased a copy of photoshop. I also pay for any piece of shareware I use beyond the trial period. Can you image the fact that someone actually makes money writing these pieces of software?

I also find it immoral and dishonest to download any copyrighted music file I have not paid for. I have friends who are in bands and the work and effort they put into their music is beyond measure. I find theives pathetic.

Wait, doesn't your sig contain copyrighted images? I am not suprised.
