for five years, i had remained microsoft-free.
used netscape (up to 4.7), icWord (a great shareware app) to read Word docs...
but now..
got a PB G3, found IE ran better. then, went to a site with videos tonite..needed realplayer (a buy-only for macusers, always a dog anyway), or...windows media player.
which i installed (& stutters, btw...)

so now i'm just another ms user... ! merde!

Why apologize?

MS is making some of the best software extant for the Mac - and doing a bang-up job of it!

Look at the money, people and resources they've poured into the Mac version of Office!

Interesting how many MS knockers use IE and other MS software daily.

It's a plus for Apple and the Mac that the maker of software for 90% of the world, sees fit
to pour so much effort into getting things right for the Mac.

Can you imagine where Apple/Mac would stand if MS suddenly announced they were discontinuing
all further development of any software for the Mac? (Which some other developers have done and
are doing.)

Relax and enjoy.

i used communicator 4.7.5 on my previous powerbook.
not compatible with 9.1 (4.7.7 now is)
so i tried netscape 6 (unprintable comment)
then broke down & tried IE5.
works beautifully, simple, fast.
crashed once.

what else is there???

On OS 9.1 I stand by my Netscape 4.7. It's faster, more reliable for me than anything else out there. Plus the mail is simple and fast.

(Sure iCab is nice, but the lack of plug-ins and weird crashes knock it down from being my fav - although it is my browser of choice for OS X)

IE is a dog. Oops, I like dogs.

I mean IE is dog crap. What's with all those extentions BTW? As stupid as it sounds, I refuse to pollute my System with Microsoft. And Yes, I have tons OF Microsoft crap at work where I am forced to administer it on a daily basis, so I have used all the latest and greatest from Redmond - and it's still all bloated crap.

it's funny, but at the end of the day, it comes to down personal preferences (& probably whatever exts, hacks, apps you've got on your mac...plus the mac model itself)

for me, IE5 runs better, faster.
cmmnctr seems less...polished, modern...

gonna go w/IE...

just wondering...
if u still need ie5 or cmmnctr to supplement icab, why not just use one of them?

i've found that less is more (for me), so one browser is all i want

(like only one version of simpletext on my hd! etc)

my new motto: use what you want!

Guess what? you've all run into the crap which Netscape has become since being bought and "restructured" by AOL. I run NAVIGATOR v4.08. Guess what. things happen at least as fast with this old 36K modem as when I'm stuck with AOL/IE at 56K.
New business motto: "If you can't beat 'em, BUY 'EM" sure works for Gates&Co.

Gotta be IE unfortunately.
I plan to pay for a license to iCab, or OmniWeb when it finalises, but know that I will probably end up at IE again.
I WANT to use something else, my morallity sensors pick up whenever I start up IE. But it's clean, elegant, some would say unbeatable.
Please somebody, for my own sake, make a decent browser. Netscape won't make another decent browser as far as I can tell.
Hark, I hear a robin sig'ing in the trees!
Nae, there is no sog to be sug,
or am I wrog? Why can't I sig?

iCab is quite good. Wish they'd release a final version already Once they iron everything out, it will probably be my primary browser. In any case, I've used Netscape for years. Never have understood all the bad commentary about it. It rarely crashes on my computers (4.7x).

As long as there are good alternatives (yes, there are many out there), I will not succumb to (at least avoid) "MS anything" on my Macs. Sometimes taking a stand is important.

My Mac used to be an MS-free zone also, until I just got too frustrated with Netscape. At about the same time, I switched to OS 9 and tried out the included IE5. It was so much better that I simply couldn't justify not using it. Now, I like to say that I've never actually bought an MS product.

taking a stand is important.

as for why i use icab and ie5?

i use icab almost all the time (right now!) because it's smaller, at least as quick, more customizable (i don't have to look at banner ads and i can filter cookies in more ways), it feels friendly (which is a way of saying i love having 5,000 options under preferences instead of 8...), it doesn't litter my system folder, and most importantly, it's written by someone who i like, and who replies immediately and pleasantly whenever i email him with a question or a suggestion.
they're doing a great job for no money because they want to. i'll support that any day. and as soon as it's done i'm going to send them my money.

yes, i still use ie5. why? corporate sites. i use icab until i'm in a major corporate zone and then i switch. it takes 2 seconds, and my mac appreciates the effort.

besides, i'm using a browser most of my friends have never heard of.
that's alternative.

use what makes you happy.
but don't be afraid to test the options.
