Since there have been many people posting problems with demuxing MPEG movies, I decided to post this product:

Product Description:
bbDMUX demultiplexes non-CSS encrypted DVD VOB files, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams into the original component streams. This should be useful for debugging multiplexing code or MPEG media authoring solutions, or repairing corrupted multiplexed MPEG files. This is a developmental version that is known to demultiplex 100% correctly, however, may crash on exit due to library problems. Full C source code is included.

Question: To what format will this decode an MPEG movie? Will I be able to output an MPEG to, say, a DV stream I can use with iMovie, or at least a QuickTime file? Will it at least create an MPEG which I can convert to DV with MediaCleaner or QuickTime?

Thanks for the link! I'm going to check it out when I get home to my iMac.

What the utility does, is it separates the muxed MPEG track into two separate MPEG tracks (one for video, and one for audio). And yes, you can open the two files in Media Cleaner or QuickTime Player to convert them to the format of your choice.

...unless it's mpeg-2, then you can't open it up in QT Pro.

bizzare,

Thanks a 10^6! I'll give this a shot this weekend. MPEGSplit (included with Sparkle) was always kinda flaky. Let's hope this works better!

MPEG-2 solution for the mac.... I have had problems getting sparkle and various software mpeg players to play MPEG-2. The best solution I have found is Wired Inc.'s Wired4DVD card. It is a hardware DVD decoder, but also allows you to play MPEG-1 and 2 files off your hard drive.
