This is getting annoying. Does anyone think it's possible that I potentially may have a hardware issue with my eyetv that is causing this?

I've been kinda fed up with the EyeTV Hybrid at this point. I ordered a TVMax+ from Small Dog, but it's backordered.

Also worth mentioning, there is a thread regarding kernel panics here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=781388

I don't think you understand the problem. It's not the hardware, it's the software. The TVMax ships with EyeTV's software. Problems with bugs in the software will still remain. If you have better luck please tells us.

Not true. The TVMax+ which was recently released uses Miglia's software, not EyeTV's.

"Q: What is the difference between TVMax+ and TVMax?
A: The software! The TVMax+ is much closer to the hardware and takes full advantage of the capabilities of the built-in hardware encoder. Instead of saving video files to your hard drive in a proprietary "container", TVMax+ uses standard file formats, such as .mpg (MPEG-2), .mp4 (MPEG-4), .avi (DivX). This means you can play recordings back with pretty much any media player without having to go through lenghty export steps.

The other major advantage is that TVMax+ creates files that are directly compatible with the iPod Video, iMovie HD (MPEG-4), Apple TV, MPEG-4 enabled DVD players and Sony PSP consoles. Instead of recording a file and then reconvert it, you just record and use immediately.

TVMax+ also offers a built-in DVD burning tool, saving you the cost of additional software."

"There is a known bug in Mac OS X with respect to OpenGL and the NVidia driver used in Mac Pros. Do you happen to have an NVidia graphics card?

EyeTV uses OpenGL pretty intensively, but you can set a boot parameter that forces EyeTV to use software rendering instead of OGL. This may help by not calling OpenGL as much. Enter the following command from terminal:

defaults write com.elgato.eyetv "use OpenGL" -bool NO

Please be sure to send kernel panic reports to Apple via the crash reporter that spawns after a kernel panic. And as I said before, please send us the panic log as well so we can track the problem from our end.

A hardware problem is possible, and I can have our sales group work with you to exchange your EyeTV Hybrid."

I don't know anything about kernel panics, and I forget if you have tried this already |(don't have time to look at the whole thread again), but the numerous references to USB in the logs suggest to me that the issue could be your USB ports or the USB connection. One thing you can try is resetting your power management (i.e. the PMU or SMU) on your Mac to see if that will help as this will "reset" your ports on the Mac as well. How you do that is model specific and you'll need to check your manual or the Apple web site to find out the method.

Of course, it could still be faulty EyeTV hardware or software, but this is possibly worth a shot.

I'll give this a try, but I'm not running eyetv on my box again until I receive a hardware replacement. I don't expect the tvmax+ to ship for another few weeks. I also don't feel like losing anymore work on my machine. So we'll see who beats who...

Still doesn't 'quit' properly.
As in when it's launched for the first time after start-up, if you quit it then will relaunch. Only quitting for a second time will get it to close. Which is a real pita as this can stop the OS's shut down (or restart) working with the message 'Eye TV would not quit and has cancelled Shut Down'

I have had my share of EyeTV 2.3 issues as well and the beta Elgato put out placed a bandaid over the main issue however the crashing just wouldn't stop. Yesterday I installed the new 2.4 update and it's perfect. No issues at all. What I did to be certain that nothing would go wrong is I used Spotlight and completely removed all traces (including preferences and plists) of the older version and then installed 2.4.

I had lots of trouble with 2.3.2 & 2.3.3. Smooth sailing with 2.4 so far.

The replacement hardware seems to be working better. Still experiencing the issue with EyeTV.app not quitting on me, even with a force quit or kill from the terminal.

Is this still true even if you do unplug the device once you force quit?

I'm not sure. Will try it the next time it happens and let you know.

Ok the issue with EyeTV not quitting is still occurring. Doesn't matter if I disconnect the hardware. I was watching Live TV for a while, then paused it, went back and now it won't quit.

Well, the only thing I can suggest is that you use Activity Monitor to perform samples when it locks up and send those to Elgato to see if they can identify the issue for you.

After months of problems, I sold the EyeTV Hybrid and bought a Miglia TVMax+. No kernel panics, windowserver isn't crashing on me anymore. Person who bought it from me didn't have any problems with their config. Everyone wins.

Apple sent me an e-mail indicating that whatever they believe to have caused this issue in Mac OS X Tiger has been fixed in Leopard. Guess a lot of bugs have been squashed, but they don't want to advertise them / cast the impression that 10.4.x has some serious bugs still in the system?

Hello,
Everytime I start up eyeTV (hybrid stick branched in) my ibook G4 crashes (Darwin Kernel version 8.2.1). I'm using eyeTV 2.5.2
The crash always occurs on the moment autotune starts. See following screenshot :

Does it has something to do with my airport extreme (unfortunately I cannot remove my airport card)
