I have a dilema that I figured someone here might be able to help with.
I want to be able to set up a Carracho server (Or any kind of server for
that matter such as Apple Web Sharing, FTP server, etc...) but I have
Airport. The IP provided by the cable company is given to the Airport base
station which then routes private IPs to all the computers connected to
Airport. This means that the IP I get is not accessible to anyone outside of
my network, which is everyone.

Is there anyway to work around this and be able to set up a Carracho server?

Keep these things in mind when answering:
I cannot access the Airport Admin Utility because the base station is not
owned by me so I do not have the password.
My knowledge of networks and TCP/IP and the like is VERY limited, so
please keep the replies as non-technical as possible.

Even if this is not possible, please reply saying that.

Thanks a lot.

This would be easy to work around if you did have access to the base station throuhg the AirPort Admin Utility. But, since that is not possible, you're pretty much out of luck.

From what you've described, the AirPort network you are on is using NAT to allowing multple AirPort clients to connect to the internet using one IP address. In order to allow services such as Carracho, AFP, or FTP to pass through, you need to set up Port Mapping on the AirPort Base Station to route access to specific ports on your public address (which the base station has) to your private address (the NAT one the base station assigns to you). That's the basics of it. I've done this to allow Identd, FTP, and Mactella (Gnutella) to run on my AirPort connected Mac.

As I said, you're out of luck without access to the base station.
