He's overrated and apparently some of it stuff is 'borrowed' or derivative, but he certainly has some funny pieces.
I enjoy the one about the middle finger.

Not a big fan... I started to watch his HBO show but after 15 minutes I hadn't laughed once. I felt he was trying to cram his comedy down my throat. No subtlety or irony. Just a guy with ADD running around and yelling his "unique" observations of life at me.

Somehow, I doubt he did the "Suck my back!" part, though.

Is this tongue in cheek - just messing with me because you remembered this from the old thread?

Dane is a nice guy, from all indications. He shot a movie with Kevin Costner in my area. My wife and I got the heads up from one of her co-workers, so we went down to the set and hung out. We didn't get to speak to them directly, but they were friendly with everyone there.
This reminds me of that old Dean Martin skit when he would predict things that happened in the past.
I'm so ahead my time, I'm behind it again.

So does delivery. (Which is why a lot of people dislike him, I think)

Mitch Hedberg was funny as hell (but he died in his sleep of heart failure - so sad).
And Steven Wright - he is over the top. (and still alive)
But whats the deal with all these comedians dying young - are they the new rock stars?
Sam Kennison sure acted like he thought he was one - heh, he damn sure died like one, eh?

Steven Wright:
"If you shoot at mimes, should you use a silencer?
It doesn't make a difference what temperature a room is, it's always room temperature.
It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it.
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.
Last night somebody broke into my apartment and replaced everything with exact duplicates... When I pointed it out to my roommate, he said, 'Do I know you?'"

My take on Dane Cook is that he's pretty funny, but his hyperactivity is almost unnerving at times. I'm also not a fan of comics who drop f*** seven times into every sentence (which is most of them), but that has to do with my religious lifestyle, so I realize I'm in the minority as far as that goes.

Where's the options for meh.
He's hit and miss. But leaning towards unfunny for the most part.

Dakar's point about a comic's delivery stands out here for me. I loved Mitch's delivery. The jokes were hilarious anyways, but his unique style is what made him so popular.
RIP, Mitch.

Well, it made him equally unpopular.
My friend told me that his entire comedy central stand-up special had a laugh-track added (supplemented?) because the audience wasn't getting him at all.

They show shots throughout the special of people dying laughing.

Think about the size of theater.
I'm not saying no one liked him -- but its a big theater. I'm sure if he didn't sell out they gave tickets away... and I don't think the average schmuck off the street is gonna dig his stuff.

How did your friend stumble upon this information? Unless he was there, it seems very suspect. The laughter doesn't sound tacked on at all.

Not a big fan of Dane Cook, but he's not nearly as boring and unfunny as Carlos Mencia. How'd he get a show again?

I accept it at face value. He's a Mitch Hedberg fan, so its not like he wants him to come off as a loser.
And I don't know.

Just to clarify: I wasn't telling you that you should feel you might be wrong. I was saying that I could possibly be wrong. I'm definitely going back to watch the show again when I get back home, just to see if I can spot anything.

I watched bits here and there, and it appeared the crowd's reactions synced up with the sounds quite well. It would be kind of funny if they actually did this considering the jokes Mitch made on his CDs regarding adding laughter to unfunny jokes.

He becomes more and more intoxicated as his show goes on. I think that's part of the humor.

Oh, I agree. I thought he was funny in Blue Collar, but when he spends about 5 minutes discussing the intricacies of masturbating his dog, including motions and sounds, I got a tad grossed out.

I say he's funny but I can't stand him.
I talk a certain way. I get very passionate about things, even things you may consider stupid. Even when I'm not trying to be funny, I guess some people find it funny. Recently people are telling me "Hey you sorta sound like dane cook". I don't, I've always sounded like this, but now I'm "acting like" someone else.
It's quite frustrating because now I'll be looked at like that guy you hate that keeps talking like Dave Chapelle going "WHAAAAT" or quotes lines from that god awful Napoleon Dynamite movie. I'm more lame than ever.
