Greedo still shoots first, but the shots are almost simultaneous to make it look more plausible.
Ian MacDiarmid now plays the Emperor; Boba Fett now has the voice of the guy who plays Jango in Ep 2. No more Luke scream at Cloud City.

Hayden Christensen replaces Sebastian Shaw in the "spirit" scene in Jedi (although I think this had leaked earlier):

Ya that is totally retarded. Why would he get 40 years younger?
Anywho, I'll live.

There's a VERY LONG list of changes. It's better you check out http://www.hometheaterforum.com and read it.

Not THAT much different from the 1997 special additions, they cleaned up that jabba scene though but it is still stupid as hell that Han walks on his tail.

Hell no. Although I do know that the actor that plays Emperor Palpatine is gay. My friend was in a play with him in England.
No wonder he was constantly trying to convert Luke to the Dark side.

Nothing George Lucas does to his movies will ruin the feeling I have for them when I saw them first. He can edit SW again but he can't edit my memories or feelings.
|
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

I heard George Lucas showed up at my school the other day to show the redone version of THX. I should have gone with my buddy Greedo who has a habit of shooting first and offering opportunities to apologize later.

I watched it.
It's AMAZING. They've done a TREMENDOUS amount of work with this. The changes are subtle, but there's a vast number of them.
Rev up your 5.1 systems!

Nope, I'm boycotting. I'm not giving George any more of my $, damned asshat.
I'll buy something more important, like the Angel season 4 set that came out this week.

I saw that in the 1997 special version they also cut a split seconds off the shooting scenes as well. It was really strange, kinda like the walkie talkies in ET.

Time.com had an article that tied Lucas revisionism to the dificult experience he had completing Star Wars, emotionally, financially, healthwise, etc. In revising the movies he was trying somehow to rewrite the personal trauma he endured during that period. i don't know if I buy that but the article did open with a shot of Princes Leia and her stunt double sunbathing in ROTJ gold bikini splendor.

AP: Why not release both the originals and special editions on DVD?
Lucas: The special edition, that's the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it's on VHS, if anybody wants it. ... I'm not going to spend the, we're talking millions of dollars here, the money and the time to refurbish that, because to me, it doesn't really exist anymore. It's like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I'm sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it. But I want it to be the way I want it to be. I'm the one who has to take responsibility for it. I'm the one who has to have everybody throw rocks at me all the time, so at least if they're going to throw rocks at me, they're going to throw rocks at me for something I love rather than something I think is not very good, or at least something I think is not finished.
AP: Do you pay much attention to fan reactions to your choices?
Lucas: Not really. The movies are what the movies are. ... The thing about science-fiction fans and "Star Wars" fans is they're very independent-thinking people. They all think outside the box, but they all have very strong ideas about what should happen, and they think it should be their way. Which is fine, except I'm making the movies, so I should have it my way.

As for these Star Wars ones, they're renters. Lucas has been on the revisionist trip since he added "Episode IV" to the opening crawl.

You know, I gotta admire that. He's under no obligation to anyone to release the originals. If you don't want the new ones, don't buy 'em.

Yep, which is why Lucas will never get another penny from me (or a great many other fans I know).

Surprisingly, I wasn't a Buffy fan until I started watching Angel, then I tuned into the Buffy reruns to get more of his history... then I got hooked on those too. Now, with both shows gone, there are no good shows on TV (`cept for Smallvillle, which is only "ok"). The thing about those shows is that the characters had chemistry, and God forbid, there was actually a somewhat unpredictable plot. Plus, their campy creepiness was great, kinda like a better production of Evil Dead or AOD.
