Well I have a very good friend of mine that's going to Sanghai, China for an engeneering contract, himself, his wife (also a good friend) and their newborn daughter. since we want to stay in contact for the next years i figure the best way is to video-chat. Of course since he's an engeneer he on PC and i'm on Mac.

Is there any app that does cross platform ( Pc to Mac ) video-chat???

I just discovered that Skype isn't offering video-chat for OS X on the version 1.4

Thanks

You can video chat using iChat with him, if he's using AIM 5.9 (not that Triton thing).

You can also use aMSN, which is a (slightly klunky but functional) MSN Messenger client that supports video on the Mac.

In fact, Trillian actually supports the format Apple's using for the video chat, if I understand correctly, rather than Apple having to use whatever crappy format AOL uses, so it should actually work better when talking to Trillian users than when talking to AIM users.

He was talking about AIM Triton, not Trillian.

Sorry, I can't recommend iVisit.. I had used it for years and it was good. But now its terribly dated and very poorly managed. It has very few users these days. Plus to get the most from it, you have to pay up an annual fee. To add insult to injury, it has the worst interface of any software i know of.

iChat is LIGHTYEARS ahead. If you can use iChat, even to AIM users, I suggest you use it..

While im here, I have tried amsn, and it only does video. No audio. And even then, the video is only in 1 direction at a time. So thats kinda weak too.
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

Ack, sorry about that. I read your post too fast (and I've never heard of Triton, so I saw Trillian there sort of automatically).

Thanks for the great info guys

so it seems that iChat with AIM 5.9 is the way to go. I'll test it before they leave just to make sure.

My experience is that you need Trillian Pro, not the basic version of Trillian. Trillian Pro on Windows works well with iChat AV on the Mac using the AIM protocol.
