hi gang,

i have a dual 2ghz rev a g5 with a 23 alu apple display on a x800xt card.

i added a second monitor dell 2001fp on a pci ati 9200 card.

i have updated permissions and installed appropriate rom extensions and firmware for the both monitors.

in preferences when i click on the ati icon both monitors are recognized and have their own ati preferences windows show up.

the 9200 is in pci slot 2.

the problem is i have sound issues. any app that has sound itunes, im, quicktime etc... has static noise when it's played in the dell monitor.

i have tried using both the vga and dvi cables to the 9200. still same issue.

when i have the sound coming out of the powermac it plays fine.

but when i have the sound coming out of my usb soundsticks with isub is when the problem happens.

i have tried connecting the isub directly in the rear and i have tried connecting to a hub. still get same problem. alot of static noise when the app is displayed on the second monitor.

the above is all i have done, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The X800XT should easily support both monitors. Get yourself a $28 ADC to DVI adapter if necessary, run both monitors on the X800XT and ditch the 9200.

Very weird. I have two monitors connected to my DP2.5/X800XT (two Dell 2001FPs via DVI) and I don't have any such sound issues. And at one point or another I've had both USB SoundSticks and standard (audio jack) speakers connected.

the x800 isn't causing issues, it's the 9200 pci card the second monitor is hooked up to. i have hooked both monitors to the x800 with no issues. when i attach either monitor to the 9200 i get sound issues via my usb soundsticks. when i use the headphones the 9200 does not have sound issues.

so apparently the 9200 is causing some kind of conflict with the usb soundsticks only.

another question, can i hook up a 5.1 or 7.1 home theater system to my g5 via opitcal out and wil it generate dolby sound. i'm assuming the sound is processed via the home theatre recevier or am i mistaken.

i'm thinking of ditching my sound sticks and purchase a sony home theatre 5.1 or 7.1 setup to drive sound on my g5.

thanks again for everyone's input.
