I understand that this is not apple's top end machine but at times it is just ridiculous how slow it is. It hangs a lot when using illustrator, photoshop, indesign, bridge and takes forever to launch applications. Even starting up a web browser with nothing running is sluggish. I would think 512mb should be adequate for most of the things i'm using this for. The grunt work is done on my G5. Is it the hard drive thats the problem then? Sometimes this thing is a lot like using my old 400mhz imac g3!

Actually, you just hit the nail on the head - RAM.

512MB is adequate for minor usage, but if you're constantly running/using the Adobe Creative Suite of applications, you'll definitely need more RAM. I have 1GB in my machine, and it works great - I'm sure it'd be even better with 1.5GB.

A ~4 year old CPU and the bare minimum amount of RAM for Tiger... yea, I'll believe it's slow. Toss in another 512MB or 1GB of RAM.

I upgraded mine to 1.5GB of RAM and it runs wonderfully for what I assume you would wanna do.

One thing I noticed is that my iBook 1.33 will hang randomly when my Sandisk Cruzer Micro is connected. Once I disconnect it (against its' will), it's fine. *shrug*

The extra gig of ram does help. Although, the iBook 1.33 does not hold a candle to my Power Mac...

Another vote for RAM, the most bag for the buck you'll get in an upgrade. Even more so than Connectix RamDoubler! ;-)
