Hi everybody. I was wondering what the deal is with Tiger installations. I am fixing a G3 iBook (currently running Jaguar 10.2) and would like to reformat the drive and put a fresh copy of Tiger on it. I would also like to put a fresh installation of Tiger on my Pismo (running 10.3.9) as well.

Would I be able to purchase a copy of Tiger from Apple's website (or cheaper off of eBay) and put fresh copies of Tiger on both of my Macs? Is the buyer limited to only one installation from the Tiger cds?

Thanks for any replies.

This may well change in the future due to potential x86 piracy, but through this point Apple has not enforced licensing restrictions on OS X client installations.

technically, tiger may not install on some older machines though you can tweak the install disk

also I copy of tiger that came with a new g4 ibook wouldnt install on a 1st gen tibook. I think it probably had some thing to do with same code mentioned in the article above - probably a way for apple to limit unlicensed installs.

If you buy an actual copy of tiger (not the one that comes with a new machine) it should install on any machine capeable of running it (IE: meeting the minimum specs). I have copies of both 10.3 and 10.4 from my student ADC account, and I know that neither of them have any lisencing protection on them to stop you from installing them on multiple macs.

Unlike certain other software companies, Apple allows you to install OSX many times from a single disc. In fact, if you've purchased the five-license Family Pack you have to do this, because it only comes with one disc.
