He's got a PlayStation 2 with a bunch of games. He pretty much just plays sports games - basketball, soccer, tennis, and racing are his favorite kinds of games.
Which would be better, as far as the game selection in this genre - the 360 or the PS3? I recall reading that the cheaper PS3 model isn't backwards compatible with PS2 games. I haven't read up on video game systems in forever (I just have a Dreamcast, PS2, and Wii), so I figured someone here might have some better insight on this one.
Thx in advance...

...mostly because you've never had a girlfriend because you play video games.

Either, really. The PS3 is better if you want Bluray but I think it's still too expensive if you don't care for it. The 360s have had huge reliability problems, but MS claims to have them licked now. Personally I'd get a Wii, it's the only console of this generation that seems to be interesting.

If he wants to keep his PS2 games and get a PS3... KMart is having a 20% off anything sale. Which means you can get a PS3 80GB for $399.
Dealzmodo: $20% off at Kmart Means PS3 40GB For $319, PS3 80GB $399
Once you do that he can go to GameStop and sell his PS2 and get a game. That way he can keep his library of games, and get a little money back off the old stuff.

He's gonna have to wait awful long for any decent racing sims on the PS3.
<cough> Forza 2 <cough>
But really, if he's not into Halo or other FPS then maybe he might like the PS3 better. I'm fairly certain Gran Turismo 5 is going to blow Forza 2 out of the water.
BTW my new 360 hasn't hicupped since I got it so I think M$ finally got their sh!t together.

Wow. Funny how the tone about the PS3 has changed in here.
Personally, I love it, but God Forbid you voice a positive opinion about it anywhere. I had a Gamestop employee berate me about my support for the PS3. But no worries, I stood my ground and told him he was a biased little sh*t.

I still have nothing good to say about the PS3. But if you're a Final Fantasy or Gran Turismo person, there's no other way to go.

Pro Street is out today actually. The demo was pretty cool, but I might wait for more info on it. GT5 is a no brainer for me, however I swear I didn't want to get another one of these, but damn...

Is it out for PC today too? I have been looking all over CVG and IGN for the release date. Steam and Direct2Drive don't have it.

Should be for consoles and PC. I won't be able to check in store yet, till my lunch break, but the street date is Nov 13th.
EDIT: Hmm, looks like some have it listed as Nov 14th. Amazon is not listing till the Nov 16th. At least it is this week, for sure, if you can't find it today.

**** me, how am I supposed to play Call of Duty 4, Kane and Lynch, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed and Pro Street at the same time when I still haven't clocked DiRT and need an hour's PES2008 every day? UT3 is going to add to my schedule. All I will be is a working and gaming machine with no other life.

All of EAs sports games run better on the 360, and there is a much wider selection of racing games on the 360.
Does your ex have an HDTV?

The Wii is awesome. Advanced technology with a low price tag and a plethora of games. It is good for all ages.
But your ex sounds like a Playstation 3 man. Buy him a few games and he can buy the console.

He's played my Wii before...he's more into traditional gaming vs. the whole Wiimote thing.
I'm really not sure what he's going to do. I'm guessing he'll wait to see what cash he gets for xmas to buy something.
He does have an HDTV (not 1080p but a very nice 52" Sony Grand Wega) and has seen how incredible the 360 looks on it. Games are the biggest thing here.

How much go the PS3 videogames for in the US?, I don't find the PS3 to be freaking expensive or prohibitive, but I would never pay over $100 US (euro-dollar currency) for a single game no matter how good it would be… that's just insane.

The PS3 has less then 10 quality exclusive games thus far, so I would give him a push to the 360.

Well for christmas i'm getting myself a ps3 just because of all the new titles coming out soon. You have Warhawk and Drake's Fortune out now, and in Febuary MGS4 is coming out and so is the new Devil May Cry. And you can't forget about the new Killzone.
So i'd get him a ps3, especially so he can play all of his older ps2 games, but it's your choice!
