Hello, I'm currently using a G$ tower for heavy graphic design work and a lot of pro-tools recordign with my MBox. I feel it's time to get a new system and I definitely need a larger display than my current 18". I can't afford a 20" imac and I can't afford 15" powerbook+ display. I was thinking of getting a new mini with a dell 2405fpw and I wanted to see what you guys thought. My current set-up is a 1.25 single G4, 64vram, 1.5ram. Would the new mini's be similar and can it drive the Dell monitors? I've been hearing about dim displays and such. Thank you for reading.

I don't think you buying a new mac mini is really going to compete with your current system, especially since you'll be shelling out a lot of cash for a very similar system with a worse graphics card.
maybe you've been brainwashed too.

I personally dont think its worth you upgrading from what you have to a mini. If you got the new 1.5 ghz mini, you would get a speed bump of 250 mhz, which isnt much. Also, you cannot have more than 1 gig of RAM in a mini, as it only has 1 RAM slot. In the new mini's they have supposedly up-ed the vRAM on the 9200's to 64 mb, so my guess is that it should run the 24" Dell with not too much trouble, although note i dont speak from experience. Note that the 9200 still doesn't support core image.
iMac Core Duo 1.83 Ghz | 1.25GB RAM | 160HD, MacBook Core Duo 1.83 Ghz | 13.3" | 60HD | 1.0GB RAM

Agreed with the above to get the Dell screen, and get a new graphics card for your G4 to go with it. Maybe a Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Gotta agree with Only, the Mini would fall short of your current ssytem.

It's a shame you can't afford the 20" iMac, I just got one myself

20" iMac G5, Mac Mini G4 and an iBook G4, all retired.
