I 'm getting a used G4 PBook, and plan on putting a 7200 rpm HD in it... my question to anyone who has done this is;

how's your battery life compared to a slower drive?

TIA

Cheers,

Try searches, tons of info on this in the threads.

To sum it up, barely any difference. I should know, installed one in my Al PB 15", and with system and battery updates, actually have better battery life after installing it.
I'm from the government and I'm here to help

maybe what 5-10 mins less on a full battery, if that.

the 7200 rpm drives are designed with a smarter power scheme.. checkout the white paper on hitachi's site.

someone once did a very detailed mathmatical calculation that explained the difference was menial.. my real life experience backs that up, i can't even tell a difference.

I dunno, I would figure, what? 1 hour labour plus parts?

$90 + taxes maybe? (CAN)

I just sold my 24" Sgi... it was real sweet.

How long you had yours?

but finding an apple certified tech to do it may be hard..

depends where you live, i doubt the apple store would do it, you'd have to find a 3rd party place.

in my case i feel confident enough to put it back if anything happens..

I dont think you can install a 7200RPM drive without voiding your warranty, seeing how its faster then the one's Apple uses currently. I'm not a 100% sure on it but if I wasn't mistaken 5400RPM is the fastest you could go without voiding your warranty. Please correct me if your wrong, and by the way all these statements are for the Alu's not the TiBooks.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)
