Hey folks,

Whenever I try to mirror my iMac and Dell 2408 monitor, the iMac screen does not show any image but a light blue background color. I can see the mouse move around on the screen, not it is not mirroring what I see on the Dell 2408. I have no troubles using the mirror display mode with my Powerbook.

Is this a graphics card issue?

What resolution are you trying to run at? Is the iMac detecting the external display correctly (name of display showing in Displays preferences or menu bar menu)?

The Dell 2408 is at 1920x1200 and the iMac is running at 1680x1050.

Yes, the name of the Dell monitor shows up in the display preferences.

I'm also having trouble getting the monitor to run in the portrait (vertical) orientation as well. Not sure what the issue is. Everything works fine on my Powerbook.

I believe the resolution of the external display must be set to the same or less than the internal for mirroring. Have you tried reducing the resolution?

Just tried it, no dice.

Even when the Dell 2408 is set at 1920x1200, once I hit the "Turn On Mirroring" button, the image on the Dell display is resized to a smaller resolution. I tried lowering the resolution, but the screen on the iMac remains blue.

Hmm, this is a bit annoying!

You mean when the Dell is set @ 1680 X 1050? Just to be clear, the Dell has to be set @ 1680 X 1050 for mirroring. You're not having a problem with extended desktop right?

You've got your display in landscape mode right? If it's in portrait mode, there's no chance the image will fit on the screen properly so OS X will probably not allow it.
