Is it possible to use AppleTV Gen4 with Hard Drive to create a media style player... I'm currently using my MacPro 12 Core as a PLEX server but the streaming of very large files over my wifi can prove too much at times (12GB files).... is it possible to use the PLEX app on the new AppleTV and connect a hard drive directly into the back of it via USB... something like a Western Digital Media Player so that movie files play direct from the hard drive instead of struggling sometimes over wifi..?

Could that be possible...? Any suggestions or comments most welcome.

Anthony

No, not directly - the USB port is not user accessible. The best you can do is to get NAS to serve the files from (I know that Synology NASes have a Plex server) and place it in the same room as the TV so you can run an Ethernet cable directly between them. Whether this is feasible depends a bit on your setup - if you get your Internet access over cable and have the cable modem at the TV anyway, you might place the router there and connect both the Apple TV and the Synology to it by cable.

Otherwise, I can only suggest that you try to improve your Wifi coverage to make the streaming work
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
