Anyone using GPG?
Can GPG encrypt an individual file using a symmetric key? (rather than encrypting to a public key from the keyring).
I seem to recall that PGP under OS 9 had this capability, but I don't seem to be able to figure out how to accomplish this using the GPG File Tool from http://macgpg.sourceforge.net/

When it comes to folder-level encryption, TrueCrypt is the much better tool.
I'm not sure if it can encrypt individual files, like a password protected ZIP file.

Yeah, I'm looking for something that does individual files (but with more robust security than .zip) and is cross platform on Mac/Win.
Preferably free and with a GUI.

Use TrueCrypt.
You need to create a TrueCrypt "container" (file), which can hold one fiel or multiple files and folders.
It's free, cross-platform, GUI and open-source.

I don't think Truecrypt will work well in this situation.
I have hundreds of small to medium sized files totaling approx 600mb.
They are to be backed-up to an online backup provider.
My requirements are that they be individually accessible (don't want to have to DL a 600mb container just to access a few files) and that they are encrypted by me with a cross platform tool. (in addition to whatever encryption is applied by the backup service)
