Blurry picture on iBook in 640x480

Not that I commonly use the setting, but for some reason when I change my iBook's resolution to 640x480 the picture looks very blurry and distorted. I took a snapshot and then switched to normal resolution, and the picture looked normal, so its deffinatly something specific with the display...
Anybody else have a symiler problem?
Or anybody know why it does this?

As I understand it, the display is "native" at 800x600 and merely doubles (or what ever the multiple would be) the pixels for 640x480, hence the "blurry" feeling on the image. This does the same on my girlfriends iBook and my Powerbook (when not set to 1024x768)
Peace,
G

G is right. The LCD messes around with pixels, combining groups of pixels to simulate a 640 by 480 display.
G said it all.
Basically, when you run at 640 by 480, you are running 800 by 600, with some doubled-up pixels, creating a distorted image. It looks distorted and more "vivid".

640x480 mode on the ibook is interpolated by the video card, meaning that it should be slower as well. You can try tweaking the font smoothing in the Appearances control panel, but it probably won't help much.

All LCD screens have a native resolution that they are meant to run in...the ibook's screen is 800x600. Of course the screenshot will look fine cause that is just the information i the video cards frame buffer.

A good analogy for this is to write something in fairly fine-point ink on a rubberband. Then, stretch the band, and you'll see the letters get bigger, but fuzzier.. that's essentially what happens when you switch resolutions on an LCD. Also, apple published a note in the Tech Info Library (www.til.info.apple.com) about the issue (just do a quick search for it).
