Well I fired up the console for no reason today, and I noticed a continuous stream of text:
"Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717
## Component Manager: attempting to find symbols in a component alias of type (regR/carP/x!bt)
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717"
and on and on and on-
Why is this happening? Is this happening to everyone? What does it mean? Can I stop it? Hmm such interesting questions...and I have no idea.
Thoughts?

Yes, you need to address this. E-mail Canon and tell them their driver should stop spamming the Console. They apparently need more feedback before they start to fix this.
To stop this you need to remove their button manager stuff (I think it was installed in ~/Library/CFM Support/). You will lose the ability to start applications by pressing the button on the scanner but nobody uses that anyway.

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Bingo! I figured as soon as I heard about that it was the "infamous" LiDE issue again...damn Canon...

I use the buttons because it is quite convenient. However, you only need to remove the files for the scanner that is NOT yours; additionally, if your scanner is not plugged in all the time, then you will get this message as well.
I've written to Canon is the past. Maybe I'll spam them as much as their lousy drivers spam my console log
