I got a new C2D 20" iMac on monday, and have liked it very much. The only thing that makes me wonder is it's weak wireless reception. I only use wireless at home, and generally reception is good. I can go anywhere in the apartment and have full reception with my Macbook Pro, but the iMac does'nt come above half reception even when I drag the basestation so that it's 5 meters away with nothing inbetween. Also putting the macbook pro and the iMac next to each other, what (600MB file) takes 5 minutes to write to my network harddrive form the Macbook takes 30 minutes to read using the iMac...

Maby the antenna is loose? Or is it just that bad?

I've got an older 20" G4 iMac, so the "positioning" of the AE card is different. BUT, I still don't get the best reception with it. I'm not sure how the new iMac's work, but in the case of your laptop, there are antennas that run through the plastic shell on either side of the display (hence the better reception).

The only thing I could suggest (and what I did), was to re-position your router!

I've now tested with a very robust HP Procurve base station I borrowed from work, and an Apple Airport Express, and none of them give a signal above 4 bars out of 14 on the Airport page of Internet Connect. Does this sound normal? It makes no significant difference how close / far I take the base station.
