thanks hookem.
my present, ruined, keyboard connects up to the iMac via usb, so i guess it should be ok with a pc keyboard then.
are there any issues at all, or limitations using a pc keyboard? or does everything work just as well?

The Apple key is labelled as a Windows key, and the " and @ are switched.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Actually, that'll probably only be the case if you're here in the UK. Apple ditched all UK localisations with (I think) Mac OS 9.0. The keyboard layout we now use is more like a US one, just with a pound and euro sign. - That's why if I set the PC I am using to the US layout, my UK Apple keyboard works fine.

your accident is precisely why i will never own an expensive laptop. while it is physically impossible for me to spill drinking water on a keyboard, spilling coke or beer is definately a possibility. i also have a g4 imac and the keyboard goes through hell. not that any of this answers any of your questions.
