David Watanabe reveals a dedicated torrent client, complete with beautifully simple GUI (as expected), improving upon the latest incarnation of Acquisition. Site.

My first thoughts about this app, are that it is worryingly simple for clueless people like me to find all manner of "interesting" torrents with next to no effort.

Yeah, it's using at least parts of libtransmission. Could be interesting though.

The one click downloading looks pretty cool too.

How do we know it's using libtransmission? That is illegal, right? Unless he makes the whole client open source.

In the About menu he lists libtransmission.

Crashes on me whenever I search, (G4 iBook, OSX 10.4.7) but it's beta so not too worried. Otherwise it looks really promising.

Transmission is MIT, not GPL.

I just wanted to follow up on this, it's been about 8 months...
xTorrent has shaped up into a great torrent program for OSX. Even to the point where I bought it. It's worth checking out if you are looking for a simple, powerfull torrent app.

I will never buy anything from a guy who simply takes Open source libraries and slap pretty GUIs on them, and then profits from them. He doesn't even contribute ANYTHING to the libtranmission trunk, even going so far as to promise features and then WAITING for the team to code them so he can add them.

Isn't his contribution making a GUI - making the work of others more accessible? Otherwise a bunch of coder hacks would toil away in command-line obscurity, with nothing more than a few nerds taking advantage of their work.

I'd say kudos to an individual who makes cumbersome, non-intuitive programs much more accessible.

Totally lame. Paying for a bit torrent client kind of defeats the purpose of bit torrent.

Xtorrent is the same exact thing as Transmission. The developer of Xtorrent copied Transmission's "innards" and just re-worked it with a different interface. Don't waste your money.

I would normally agree, but Transmission is anything but!
