So, is Apple releasing upgraded Macbooks? Llaunching a new line of slimmer Macbooks? Is this happening with the release of Leopard?

I read a few articles in:
9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence

Any thoughts?

HM. My thoughts?

9 to 5 could be way off on this one. I don't think Apple would make the MacBook the slimBook.

They can do it whenever they want... better chips/chipsets/GPUs have been available since before the last MacBook refresh was released.

What it caught my attention is that almost 50% of people in the surveys think some kind of "surprise" is coming with the Leopard release on the 26th, in terms of hardware...

I was ready to buy in Amazon with a rebate ending on the 22nd, but now I probably wait to see what happens on the 26th (and then I have a few more days for my inner debate between the Nano and the Touch)

Also, it's suspicious that Amazon ends a rebate for the current Macbook four days before the release of Leopard...

My opinion is that the MacBook will become aluminium just like every other apple product that used to be white plastic. The iPod Classics used to be white and black plastic and are now white and black aluminium. The iMac was white plastic and now it's aluminium. Even the Apple keyboard used to be white plastic and now it's aluminium.

I think the MacBook will look a lot like the new keyboard. The cover made out of aluminium, but the keys still white platic squares. I think it'd look good.

I thought that the new aluminium MacBook was going to be announced alongside the 10.5 announcement but that didn't happen. Maybe it will happen tomorrow, if not, maybe MacWorld.
I hope it's soon since I want to buy one.

The release of new aluminum MacBooks is going to happen but I don't see it happening on the 26th. Maybe MacWorld.

(P.S.: if it happens on the 26th my mom will defiantly be happy )

Question, on the current macbooks (I have a rev. A), are there function keys with the dashboard, expose, or iTunes keys that i know the new keyboard has?

I called Apple and I talked with a representative. He said there are no plans to have a new revision of the Macbook hardware because the last one happened this year on May. If there is a new Macbook version (not new style/models but more HD, RAM, processor, etc), it will come in 2008.

About the rumor of new Slimbooks (aluminum slimmer Macbooks), he said they have no idea. I know he's only a sales specialist and he may not know Apple's announcements or strategies, but he sounded sincere. I mean, he could have said "no idea" about the Macbook upgrade, nevertheless he said "no more revisions this year"...

My guess is, because the last revision on Macbooks was five months ago, they won't replace the line until 2008. I don't know, probably they announce something on the 26th, but now I'm more with the Macworld dates for new hardware announcements...

About LEOPARD:
He also said that even if you wait until 26th to buy a Macbook it still could come with Tiger and a Leopard disc, or with anything but Tiger. Then you would have to pay $10-shipping to receive a "free" Leopard...

Conclusion:
The Amazon.com deal ending TODAY seems to be the best deal in the Macbook market:
$75 rebate, then $9.95 to receive free Leopard.

That's pretty good news for me (that is, if that actually is what's going to happen, and the high-up people in Apple aren't planning a surprise release). Thanks for posting it.

Apple representatives usually aren't too keen to offer any inside information through their tech support ;-)

The tech support reps probably don't even know about release dates because of how tight lipped Apple is.

An Apple representative won't know about future updates/redesigns beyond a month or so in the future, and even if he did, he would be fired for giving off such information.

I know. I didn't expect to have an Apple representative telling me "probably there's a new line coming"... I know that always they say "I have no idea". But, it was kind of useful that he told me "We don't expect further upgrades this year because the last one was five months ago"... It wasn't signed on stone, but it's a kind of reasonable.

Anyway, anything could happen on the 26th, on Thanksgiving, MacWorld, etc.

Amazon extended today its Macbook rebate to November 12, which means to me that there are no new Macbooks or similar, at least on the 26th...

well...they originally released the macbooks may of '06 and subsequent revisions were the bump to C2D in Nov of 06 and then the mHz/HD/superdrive bump in may '07....so there's still hope. stupid GMA950...grrr...

Personally, I would expect the MacBook updates to come shortly after New Years. Perhaps around the time of MacWorld.
On the other hand, if the update comes around November, then MacBooks are going to be very hot during the shopping season.

I don't they will make the MacBook "slimmer" on the 26th. Since the Leopard page on Apple's site has the current MacBook shown a lot, I highly doubt we'll see an upgrade anytime soon.

The aluminum enclosure does seem like a good guess for the next hardware revision though.

outthere, if it is in the November 6th week, it'll probably be the 6th and not the 9th since Apple makes announcements on Tuesdays.

They announced 10.5 on a Tuesday but said it will be released on a Friday.

There are exceptions though. Apple has released products on Wednesdays and Fridays every once in a while.

I was thinking that if they make the MacBooks aluminum it would really visually blur the line between the MacBooks and the Pros. It's probably not very likely, but maybe they'll combine the two laptop lines and have "MacBooks" with low end models comparable to the current MacBooks and higher end models comparable to MacBook Pros.

Just useless speculation, but I agree that the MacBooks no longer fit in with the rest of the product line at all.

This is the date that Multimedia pulled out of his rear on the MacRumors forums...and the rest of the members have been running with it ever since.

I hope, I hope, I hope. And I hope it's not just an internal update but all out redesign. I'm sad to see the white go (and sure it will), but we might as well make a clean break and not drag this one out any longer.

All I would care about is the same price or lower, independent graphics system, speed processor bump to Santa Rosa and that's it.

And, yet, to maintain separation between the MB and MBP, the MB will never have discrete graphics.

I want the hard drive to continue to be easy to swap out, a DVD burner in the low-end model and a nicer color then white in the low-end.

I can live with white, but I like black much more. Just not $200 more.

It would be cool if the Macbooks came in colors like the iPod Nano.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

If it does come out tomorrow, would they do a case redesign without a special event?

Someone mentioned to me that when the original MacBooks came out, they were released without a special event. Is that true?

Great, I told myself I wouldn't second guess buying a MacBook this past weekend.

Truth be told I have no need for updated hardware as what I got suits my needs but boy wouldn't that be annoying!

Apple has a exchange policy if you buy an item that gets upgraded shortly after your purchase. I think it's fourteen days, but I'm not certain. Also not sure if there's a restocking fee for this policy.

Actually, you guys just don't know what the hell you're talking about. Satan Rosa is Intel's official code name for Santa Rosa minus Kedron. How could you have missed that?
