i was having internet connection problems and i posted in another forum about it. i was using a usb-ethernet adapter and someone asked me what IP address it said it has - so i posted the IP address that Network Status said was associated with the ethernet/ usb-ethernet adapter.
I assumed the person might be able to help once s/he knew the IP address, but s/he didnt post again - so it got me thinking that maybe there was a chance that it was info i shouldnt have given away.
is it safe to give that info away? or a security risk?

Every time you go to a website, you give that website your ip address. It's unlikely to be a problem unless your system is already insecure.

i looked up my IP, (i'm currently on dialup) and it was a different number than that given in the network status that it said was associated with the usb-ethernet i was using. does that mean anything?

Its normal to get a completely new IP address everytime you connect on dial up. Besides, there is only so much anyone can actually do with an IP number. Plus the risk on OS X is negligible. And I highly doubt any hacker could really be bothered with a dial up user anyway.
In short, nothing to worry about.

The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.
