I frequently get songs stuck in my head that play over and over like a broken record. So far, the only way I can get it out of my head is to find the song and put in in iTunes and play it on repeat for 30 minutes or so. Otherwise its like a bad case of the hiccups, it will never go away. I wake up in the morning to random songs in my head, and all day it drives me insane!
This morning I awoke with this somewhat annoying song, "Nth Degree" by Morningwood stuck in my head! I have no idea where it came from, but on my way to work, I heard it again on the radio!
Am I just insane, or do other people suffer from this too?

No, no, you're not alone. Why just today I had Tom Lehrer's "Masochism Tango" stuck in my head.

Anytime a song is stuck in my head it's a really good song that I love, and it helps me live through the day because it's like a soundtrack to life.
Today it was Radiohead - "True Love Waits"

Sometimes I have songs stuck in my head which I then have to go play.
Sometimes I have songs stuck in my head which I then have to go write and record.
But the most annoying thing is demonstrated by "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" by "The Darkness". I'll get it stuck in my head. Then I'll have to go play it. But it's nowhere near as good in real life as it is in my head and the whole thing becomes a bit of a let-down. Annoying.

Thats what I thought.
Seriously though, why is it that I have to hear the song over and over again to get it from repeating over and over in my head?

Actually, you don't. There is the Ultimate Repeating Song Override Procedure (URSOP), which will absolutely destroy the song you currently have looping in your head, guaranteed. All you have to do is start singing the following phrase, and you will be cured:
"I'm 'Enery the 8th, I am; 'Enery the 8th I am, I am...."

Either that, or
"(Alalalalalong, alalalalalong-long-le-long-long-hey) push-it some mo-oore (alalalalalong, alalalalalong...)"
That's sure to kill off anything that was there before.
And if you cry out, it's gonna push some more.

That song won't work. It got stuck in my head in the past, and I had to listen to it a lot to get rid of it. Plus, it's a song that weirds me out for some reason...

And learn to fly again
And learn to live so free
And when we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up
And let us in.
Arrghhhh...(chorus)...arrggghh!

lol, yes. I'm telling you though, that song won't work! That song has the extra risk of getting stuck in my head again. Not sure I want that...

Cure #1: "It's A Small World" Just sing the refrain a couple of times, and whatever other song was stuck in your head is completely gone! May cause side effects.
Cure #2: Find the correct version of the song that's stuck. It doesn't eliminate the song, but at least you can get a good use out of having it stuck there.
Cure #3: Discuss the song that's stuck in your head with someone while they play something completely different loud enough to be annoying. This usually also causes headaches, but it helps with the song.
"Masochism Tango?" The original version, right? I've heard a recent cover, and it doesn't do it justice. But anyway, I perfer "Poisoning Pigeons In The Park" over most of Tom's work.

If I Could - Jack Johnson
My best friend passed away on 10/28, 2 days before his daughter turned 3 weeks old. This was the song that immediately began playing over and over again in my head... until I finally had to play it.
It's nice to have such a perfect song to play to remind me of him.

I've had Wolf Parade's "You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son" in my head all day.
It made for some funky dance moves.

Haviang a 2 year old in the house who likes to listen to the same song over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over over and over and over, I have had a few stuck in my head. Some of her toys play classical music, and I don't mind when I get a tune like that stuck in my head. It used to get really bugged when I'd get a Raffi song stuck in my head, but I learned the best way to get rid of it is to embrace it and actually hum the tune for a while. Before I know it, it is gone and replaced by some random classical song from one of her toys.

It's a very good dark tune about similar effect, check it out...

Aye, the original version. Grew up listening to Tom on my dad's reel-to-reel rig, so I know most of the songs by heart. And yeah, Pigeons is a better song overall, but somthing about the Tango lends itself to getting easily stuck in my head.
