I'm a Blue Jay fan and I think this could be a year where we see a number of individual accomplishments for us...
To me, Roy Halladay is the best pitcher in all of baseball. There are pitchers, such as Cliff Lee, that have had better seasons than him, but only he and Santana have been so incredibly consistent from year to year for such a long time. His approach is brilliant - he doesn't worry too much about strikeouts, having a deceptive delivery, having incredible velocity, or many of the other tools that pitchers use, he just goes after pitch efficiency and inducing groundball outs. Last year he had something like 9 complete games which was the most in baseball by a wide margin. Blue Jay fans just take for granted seeing him get through innings in under 10 pitches and working 7+ innings into games game after game.
Last year, even though he won over 20 games and was the Cy Young runner up his run support was crap - 2 runs less than Cliff Lee's. So far this season our offense is on fire and Halladay is 3-0. If our run support while he is pitching is better this year, he could win 23 games - he lost many games last year in 1-0 scores. For this reason, I think he is a great Cy Young candidate this year.
I think that Travis Snider is a great Rookie of the Year candidate. He has adjusted to the big leagues really quickly at 21 years of age, and is just an incredible power hitter. He also hits for a high average. I expect him to be a big 30+ HR 100+ RBI guy before too long.
I also think that Cito Gaston has a good chance at Manager of the Year. Since rejoining the Blue Jays last year their record has really turned around, and they are off to a great start this year.
I'm not going to bother making team predictions because I think that they are generally pointless, but I look forwarding to reading some of yours anyway

Still think that. Grenkie is obviously having the better year, but Halladay is been consistently better for far longer. To me, that's the measure of greatness, not just one freaky good year (see Cliff Lee), but nails year after year.

It's only May. Check back in August, we'll see who is having the better year.
Will the guy in my sig still be batting .400 then? Probably not, but I hope so.

As a Mets fan, I can guarantee that the Mets will still be infuriating.

For the record, I'd say that Santana is the best pitcher year after year in the NL.

Then I call this thread a bust. The title insinuates 2009 (not career) team and individual accomplishments....therefore, Zack is better than Halladay at this point in the season and obviously the early favorite to win the AL Cy Young.

rickey939: we'll agree, but we'll see if Greinke can sustain his pace. Halladay usually gets better as the season progresses...

Congrats are indeed in order! He was definitely most deserving of the award on the AL side. I would have put Halladay third in the AL voting about Sabathia and Verlander, but whatever...

They had a baseball season in 2009? That's funny, I can't remember any of it....

Gordon Beckham came in FIFTH for AL Rookie of the Year? Really? REALLY?
Congrats to Zack, and thanks, Blue Jays, for shoving Alex Rios off on us.
