Well, looks like tomorrow will be the deciding factor. I've got the funds and my debit card needs breaking in.

You've got the reported Thursday press briefing [AppleInsider] too. An announcement, if any, could also be Wednesday or even the Friday (day of the Manhattan store opening).

...or anytime before December 31st...

LOL! You know you're a Mac fan when you... dream about upcoming Macs. Don't worry slug, I'd bet most of us have the occasional Mac-related dream. In fact, I've been awaiting the iBook/MacBook so long that I wouldn't be surprised if I had a "vision" of the MacBooks as well. Now when they become "wet dreams" then maybe, just maybe, it's time to seek some help.

As long as it wasn't a wet dream...

But I empathize with you. I pray to the Great Jobs it's today... or Wednesday... or Thursday...

EDIT:

Hmmm... Interesting...

I was perusing the ATI website and found out that the Radeon 9550 supports HDCP. It is the only ATI GPU other than the Xxxx and Xxxxx series Radeons that does. I never knew that. Of course the current G4 iBook does not support HDCP, but one wonders if a MacBook in the near future will get DVI with HDCP support, utilizing a Radeon 9550 or Radeon X300.

Can you tell I don't want GMA 950?

That's interesting... I had never really considered the 9550 for the MacBook. I suppose that with a little more VRAM (64 MB, anyone?) it would be more than adequate for common home uses as well as a little casual gaming here and there.

PS: How does the 9550 stand up to the X300? I asked a while back here, but never really got an answer.

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species

I'd assume they'd both be fairly on par; as I have never seen another laptop with the 9550,
I can't tell.

But knowing Ati, the 9550 is a knocked down 9600.

Short answer: I'd say comparable. But it's only a guesstimate.

Finally, someone who gets it! XD I don't want the GMA 950, because with a 64MB X300, or a 64MB 9550, I'd be a happy man with the MacBook. especially at that scrumptious price point. I'm sure an X300 would be entirely affordable. even better, an X1300.

About the HDCP, Apple may knock out the feature -- they've done it before, I'd assume -- but I'd hope. it'd be one more plus for the MacBook.

For me, perfection would be:

Intel Core Solo 1.5 or Core Duo 1.66 (I'd preffer the Duo.)
512MB Ram (I'll upgrade to 1GB anyways.)
60GB (Up! 100GB.)
X300 64MB/9550 64MB/X1300 64MB

That's all I care about.

Well here I am, credit card at hand, ready to order a Core Duo MacBook as soon as Apple releases them. Here's hoping it'll be here in roughly 6 hours. I can't wait to compare it to my 2.0GHz MBP.

I far prefer the white - the black looks like a normal PC notebook running front row...

Well, in my job I spend over 60h a week in front of my Macs and PCs. That's one area where I don't try to save money.

That said, I'm not actually planning on keeping the MB because I doubt it will stand the slightest chance against my MBP. But still, I'd like to make up my own mind about it. No offense to the forum posters, but there's no such review as your own.

In the end, I might just sell it off on Ebay after a few weeks (if it sucks) or keep it as a toy if it's really nice. Let me put it this way: If it's got a 1.83GHz Core Duo and a X300 I'll keep it. If it's just a GMA950 and a 1.6GHz Core Duo or even a Solo, I certainly won't be using it for long. And my gut feeling says it'll rather be the latter.

Sounds like you might have some iBook/MacBook dreams tonight...

I've been waiting for a redesign and serious upgrade for a while now. Check out this old thread from 2004. What's incredible is that we're in 2006 and nothing's changed much in the iBook line. I don't want incremental speed updates or minor cosmetic changes-- I want to finally see a real update to the iBook.

Anyone know what time the Apple store generally goes down for an update? I seem to recall it being about 8 am ET, which would be 1 PM here in the UK, can anyone confirm?

It's too early. The US store normally goes down in about 40min from now. No idea why the others are so early though.

Maybe since they aren't having an event, they wanted to build up as much hype as possible last minute, so have taken the stores down, but won't update them, or take down the US store until the normal 8 AM ET time... Probs a loada crap, but you never know

Hmm, is there a possibility that we (as in non-NA) might get see it earlier? Although I highly doubt that, it does make you think....

I find the US and Canada stores sometimes go down a bit later. It might make sense too since it's pretty damn early in the morning over here.

I just hope it's for what we all want...

I just called the telesalesteam in the Netherlands telling him that there is a problem with the store. He said it's true and that there was coming a new product and therefore the site was out.
I asked whether this was due to an update or a new product and he told me that this only happened when they launch new products.
He asked why i was calling and i told because of the macbook.
Probably due to his orders he couldn't tell me whether it was a macbook or not but he asked for my number to call me back when the site is online.

IT IS COMING GUYS!!

70 minutes to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Pulled that from another forum....here we go!!!!!

I have my first day of Summer Session classes today, and I really ought to be doing things like, oh, figuring out what room to go to in 2 hrs. But if something new comes out, I'll probably be reading the specs over and over until the moment I get on my bike.

They can add and remove products like a mouse without taking the store down. They only take it down when one of the key pillar products is changing.

They took it down for Apple Remote Desktop 3 a few weeks ago. I don't mean to downplay the importance of that upgrade for those folks who use it every day, but I certainly don't think most Apple fanpeeps would consider ARD a key pillar product.

This thread is just making me laugh now..
