It was absolutely brilliant, and I hate Star Wars. The best moment was at the end where Chris tells Peter that Robot Chicken already did a Star Wars episode, although I never saw that one.

It had it's moments. It was funny at first but I found myself laughing less and less as it progressed. I found the bit with the couch was tedious at best.

So far it has fallen into two camps...

that "I'm so much better than you" and "life is so boring" loser camp who think it was boring,

and the "take everything on face value" and give it a chance: "very funny" camp!

I'm glad I'm not a loser: I thought it was funny!

You poor sorry bastages who get no joy from life...I pity you...

Is it bad that they "have" to use flashbacks to be funny?

Seeing that it's a lazy way of writing, then yes. It's just a way to stretch unimaginative "plots" into full length episodes by cramming it with hit and miss one-liners and recycled jokes.

Since when are cartoon comedies about the plot?

I find the worst thing about the later simpsons episodes is that the plot advancement goes way too far, at the expense of jokes. You have each act advancing the plot into unrecognizable territory from the previous act, and it's all devoid of funny. The early years had one cohesive plot, but it wasn't enough to "fill" the whole 22 minutes... because it left room for jokes too!

Obviously it's best to have a perfect balance of plot advancement and comedy. But if you have to err, I far prefer to err towards comedy. That's the whole point of the genre, after all. They're not dramas. Just stop worrying about "where's this all going" and enjoy the ride, you'll have a better time of it. Remember the Poochy premiere, when Milhouse was crying "when are they going to get to the fireworks factory?" Don't be Milhouse. It doesn't matter if they don't get to the fireworks factory. It's just a cartoon.

Spoken like an ADD kid. This is why Futurama and Venture Bros are great and Family Guy is just an endless string of pop culture references and contrived one punch gags. They marry comedy and plot, and do it in a way that enhances both.

It was ok. There were things that made no sense to me at all, like that commercial for those droids. I just went 'huh?'. It went on too long. It had its moments, but I'm not gonna rush out and buy it on DVD when it comes out.

Yea, a few times it was dragged out, but its always been known to do that. I liked it, mostly. And then what Adult Swim had to say later that night.

It had its funny moments. Though, as with all Family Guy episodes, it has a tendency to drag its jokes beyond necessary.

It's not lazy, it just happens to be the format of the show. It's expected, anticipated, and generally well received by fans.

The commercial was referencing an earlier family guy episode with the "whacky inflateable flailing arm man emporium and warehouse" or something like that. They made it star wars-ish. A lot of stuff in the episode joked random bits of either the star wars or family guy universes.

I unfortunately missed the episode, but apparently Adult Swim will be airing it in three weeks or something so I will just wait until then.

It was obvious that it was a 30 minute show that got stretched out into an hour. So many scenes and establishing shots that could have easily been trimmed out.

It was ok, like most Family Guy stuff. Nothing amazing.

I'll agree that Family Guy features lazy writing and is no where near the level of quality of the other big animated shows, but it's still worth watching. Every once in a while it's very funny, and it's usually at least funny enough to watch.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

"Hold your fire? What are we paying by the laser now?"

I enjoyed it, definitely slowed down as it progressed but I certainly liked how they stuck to the original scenes religiously.

Meg being the trash compactor creature made me laugh out loud.

Compared to the terrible (and I mean terrible) Simpsons season opener Family Guy was a laugh riot.

FG is a notoriously un-funny show, and this thing was no different. The "Time of My Life" dance sequence was douche-chillingly awkward and bad, as was the aggravating need for them to EXPLAIN jokes- like a closeup shot of the Grey Poupon jar (we got that joke as soon as the Jawa vehicles stopped at the light), and the printer-sex (yes we KNOW its an old printer, no need to TELL us).

There were a few laughs in this thing-- mostly the smaller moments, like the Stormtrooper putting his hand on another's ass, the Imperial March as elevator music, stuff like that.

But overall, yeah boring. Slavishly copying actual scenes from the movie is not inherently funny, and there was way too much of it, so it fell flat. Just like that Wrath of Khan bit a few years ago,.

It fell short of being classic.

But I'd rather watch it again than Attack of the Clones.

I agree. I laughed out loud at that scene, and then felt so bad for Meg.

I only got to watch half of it last night. I'll watch the rest when I get home. The half that I did watch was funny.

"Hold fire."

"What, do we pay by the laser now or something?"

What's a lazer?

It's so funny how people's opinions on this show are so divided, it's either "I love it, it's hilarious" or "I hate it, it's all flashbacks and not funny"

Super funny. They mocked the heck out of StarWars, in ways it needed to be mocked. Though I will agree some parts just went on a bit too long... like a certain dance sequence. But besides a couple parts, it was quite funny.
