for those that care:

"iPhoto 4.0.2 addresses minor issues with Smart Albums and European books, and provides notification when new versions of iPhoto are available."
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity...

Only if you run software update. I, like I am sure many people, have it turned off to automatically check for updates. And I sure do run iPhoto more often than software update, so I think it is a good thing to add.

Hesitate to threaten, or threaten to hesitate? Anyway, Gosh! Terribly sorry. It's just i'm not in the habit of searching for banana's on Google, and when I did, I was quite disappointed with the meagre selection that was offered. The small ones were too small, and the others were a bit on the, shall we say 'well endowed' size. Didn't realise that such a large banana would cause such a degree of offence. I guess I should have marked the post with an XXX rating and a parental guidance notice to pre warn those who are easily offended.

Ok, so where was I? Oh well alright then, I'll spell out my point for those who could not grasp it. Why do we have posts like this? SUCP tells us its there (Most people automate it so we get told without so much as lifting a finger), and it's pretty quickly slapped up on the front page of Macnn too (Crumbs look! there it is!). Yet there is always someone to go "Oh Goodie!! A trivial update! I wonder if I can be the 1st to post it and score some much needed credibility points for myself!?" So, given that this is what we apparently have here, I thought the original poster might appreciate the prize of a banana.
Am I rambling on? Well, a picture does speak a thousand words, so be grateful it's as short as it is ok..

Was I really so sinful? Am I really under threat of eternal eradication from Macnn for the posting of a SuperSized banana? If so, then forgive me Tookins, for I have sinned. Here, have a hug

PS, iPhoto4.0.2 seems ok to me

It didn't delete my photo library. Just FYI If you thought it might not be safe.

Seemed to take an extra moment to open, and then to quit. I don't use Smart Albums (should I be?), don't live in Europe, and have Software Update automatically check for new software once a week, so this update meant nothing to me but wasn't any effort to install, so why not.

I think it's good to have a thread the moment a trivial update comes out, to find out things like "it deleted all my files and made a bleeding skull appear on my monitor!"

I'm still stuck with iPhoto 2.0. When I heard the news of the upgrade, I went to download the thing, and it won't install. Says it doesn't see a 4.0, or a 4.0.1 version in my Applications folder; offering no other options.

Guess I'll have to buy iLife to get the upgraded version (even though iTunes has been upgrading just fine on my system so far ) . The upgrade requirements didn't say anything about having to have an iLife license for the upgrade to work either .

When iLife '04 came out, iPhoto stopped being free. What made you think you could get it for free from a 3.4MB point update?

iTunes is still free because Apple wants you to use the iTunes Music Store.

That's because you don't have iPhoto 4.0... 4.0.2 =! Full version.

Yeah, thanks so much for that ... But I'll quote myself:

It would have been nice for Apple to say so, instead of expecting me to read their minds .

Maybe the withdrawal has something to do with the fact that it now takes ages to quit.

I would pop in and out of iPhoto pretty quickly with 4.0.1, but this release (4.0.2) takes over a minute to close. I just the the Spinning Beachball and eventually after a great deal of disc activity it quits.

I hope they bring out 4.0.3 soon to fix this.

I get the beachball on close too, but also when I launch iPhoto. Could have been something much worse, so I'm glad to see it's something relatively minor. I do wish they would improve their testing though - buggy updates are becoming an all-too-familiar part of the process.

They probably *did* say something about needing a valid 4.0.x install, though, which amounts to the same thing.

I want to know what rock you've been living under. This was announced to the entire world in January. So it's hardly like they're expecting you to read their minds.

Sheesh... There's no need for all the rudeness. I don't live under a rock, it's just that I (unlike some of you) haven't had my head up Apple's ass for the past few months (see... I can get personal too ) . Get over yourselves.

As for what Apple "probably" stated on their web page about upgrade requirements; I know what I read and it didn't say I had to have a current version of iPhoto to install the upgrade. But now that the upgrade page is down, I can't get a link to show ya.

Hmm... I wasn't aware that MacNN's boards had become so clickish. Guess I've have to stop recommending this place to new switchers .

"Cliquish"

You obviously aren't in the Spelling Clique.

Nobody is trying to be "cliquish." I think it's clear, though, that you are the only one who didn't think it was obvious that you needed 4.0. Don't you think that says something?

Did iPhoto always have screensaver modules? (I never saw them before).

I wondered if 4.0.2 was pulled because some folks with the random screensaver setting got surprised by having their "photo" collection playing for the entire household.

Unless Apple just now added it, the System Requirements on that page do state that the update requires iPhoto 4. Immediately below there is an ad to buy iLife '04.

iPhoto 4.0.3 told me that I needed to update my photo library, but it also opened and closed instantly, no hanging. Maybe the 4.0.2 update was supposed to have updated the library, but because it didn't, hung on open/close.

4.0.3 also fixed my slow close.

Much better, back to normal.
