I'm new to Apple computers and just purchased a i-mac. How do I get pictures I download from the internet onto my desktop. I very much would like to customize my desktop. If anyone could tell me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Here's how to do it: hold down the control key and click on the desktop. From the menu it brings up, select "Change Desktop Background" -this opens up the Appearance control panel. (You could also open the control panel through the Apple menu, but this way is a bit easier). Click the "Place Picture" button to open an image file, and then click "Set Desktop."
