If all goes to plan, I will have a new job this week which supplies me with a PC laptop which means, I will be sending my current mac laptop back to my previous job. Until I have money to buy another mac, looking to get an idea if there are any Unix or Linux distros out there that have a similar feel to the Mac OS without needing to make a great number of changes to the OS to get the same feel.

Ubuntu is going to be the least painful, I reckon.

Probably Ubuntu, though you are not getting a Mac. The Gnome GUI is generally considered kind of "Mac-like" (though I guess that's by comparison to KDE, which is a Windows ripoff).

No.
Ubuntu is the best IMO, but it's different than OS X.

Thanks. Downloading Ubuntu now. Downloading Linux Mint. According to distrowatch.com this is the latest Ubuntu release other than the Ubuntu 8.04
Would this not be correct or would the standard Ubuntu version be better over Linux Mint?

What? Why are you downloading Linux Mint? Ubuntu 8.04 is the latest, the next will be 8.10 in October.

It's an ubuntu derivative but has the dock and menu bar, wine, dashboard, and more.
It also had stacks like leopard for a while.

Find out what the stats of the laptop are, and its chipset. If it's Intel GM945/950/X3100 etc... then run OSX on it. Can't get more OSX-like than OSX itself. It actually runs quite well on many PC laptops if you just so happen to have the luck of the draw.
Otherwise, I'm not one who finds Linux to be very "Mac-like" in virtually any way, shape, matter or form (not that I'm not a fan for what Linux actually IS). But good luck with that.

I agree. since you most likely already own a license to OS X - You could use one of the many flavours of OSx86 and try to get it working on your Laptop. It can be a PITA though.
You can dual-boot with it too, so you can use windows natively when necessary.

I ran Ubuntu at my last job and really liked it. If I was going to switch away from Mac, I'd use Ubuntu.
