I have an old 6360 that I'd like to connect to my DSL line. The problem is that I need an ethernet connection. I'd just put in a PCI ethernet card, but I have a graphics card in the only PCI slot right now (NexusGA or something I think), and I really don't want to lose the graphics accelerator just to get it online.

Now, the 6360 has a Comm II slot, and at one point you could buy an ethernet card that would fit in there. But I can't find one anywhere anymore.

So does anyone have a suggestion for what I can do? Can I get a Comm II ethernet card from somewhere, or am I going to have to go PCI? I thought I read about a serial to ethernet converter once, but I can't seem to find one of those, either.

I had a 6360, my 1st Power Mac! You can find those comm II slot ethernet cards all over ebay. Prices are great these days compared to what they once were. Do a search and "But it Now!"

You also might want to check out <a href="http://www.macresq.com" target="_blank">MacResq</a> or <a href="http://poweron.com" target="_blank">PowerOn Computer</a> , They both tend to have access to and supply of older, legacy peripherals

I also forgot another great source.. <a href="http://www.smalldog.com" target="_blank">Small Dog Computers</a> , They are also have access to a wide variety of products.
Another thing you might want to consider, if you can't find a card, or one that is reasonably priced (I've seen ethernet cards --comm slot I-- for around $60)... At PowerOn, they have 7220's, which is a faster machine than your 6360, which have onboard 10-baset, 2 pci slots, and comm slot II for $89.... just something to think about... (you could move your existing graphics card and ram over)

Thanks for the help. For some reason I never thought to check Ebay. I will chechk out those companies too.

As for upgrading the machine, I don't think that it's primary user is going to be big on moving all of the files to a new cpu, but it might be worth it.

Just another thought... if you are in an area with a school district that has a lot of macs, you might want to check with their tech support office to see if they have any older ones that they are junking/salvaging for parts, and you might be able to get one that way. Just a thought...

Proxim (previously Farallon) still makes ethernet cards for Comm Slots.

($99)... I think that is when you really have to start weighing the cost to benefit... for a few it might be worth it, but for me, i'd rather invest that $$$ elsewhere (you can buy a better machine with ethernet on the motherboard for less)... but again, for some people this might be a good option.
