I just bought a set of Logitech 5.1 speakers; they were on sale, so i thought what the heck... but obiviously a PB isn't going to support 5.1 - Just wondering if any here uses a 5.1 decoder usb type adpator on their PB, such as the m-audio sonica theatre? what are your thoughts on it? which ones are good?

I stuck my cousins USB 5.1 and it worked plug and play but the Sound prefs dont allow any advanced options for adjusting the volume of front and rear speakers or subwoofer. Just main volume control. That one was by Abit who don't develop anything for Macs.

I've never used one, but going on what Rooney is saying, make sure you get one that it build for the Mac too.

You can't really go wrong with M-Audio, and the Sonica Theatre has drivers and a preference panel for both OS9 and OSX.

here is a review on it by a Mac user group with some screenshots of the control software:

google brings up a ton of reviews on it

I have M-Audio Sonica connected to my Dual 1.42. Sounds great. Well, you need a set of speakers.

Haven't connect it to my PB yet. (Don't use PowerBook for music.)

Neither the Sonica or OS X does decoding, it passes it though to the speakers for them decode it. I think the only Logitech speakers that have a decoder are the Z-680's.
Intel iMac 1.8
Logitech Mx 7000
Firewave
Logitech z-5300 5.1
