Ah! I own that one too! Fortunately it has already been determined here that the arts are subjective. So I am comfortable enjoying what others call mediocre movies.

SPOILER warning incase you have not viewed the movie yet.

The biggest problem with this movie was from day one- The Art Direction
No emotional attachment to the robots designs...

Too many product placements....
Apple, HP, Xbox, Porsche, General Motors, Panasonic San Disk (was soo obvious), Yahoo, Ebay and America (the world globe in Sams room was obviously set to show only America and not randomly spun)

What's with the GM connection. You'd think if you were a futuristic robot you would actually choose a quality european or Japanese car to incarnate yourself?
Bumble Bee as the old Camaro was charming and I did like that, but Jazz as a Solstice from being a 911...No wonder why he died at the end...
Couldnt live with the downgrade.

What I did like-
Original Optimus Prime voice actor
New Bumblebee look
The Cybertronian language for Deceptacons being translated as subtitles.
Sam was a great choice for cast
Sound Effects were maaaad! Blackouts (the chopper) sonic booms got the adrenaline starting.
Bumblebees choice of songs

What was usual hollywood garbage-
optimus using todays slangs.. e.g. "My Bad..."
Bumble bee pissing
cute girl tooth Fairy line
American soldiers are invincible, have white teeth and are too cool to wear standard issue uniforms.
Comical secret agency
Sexy girl is also has a secret bad past...Only the honest nerd can help.
Labeling certain countries as potential enemies, China, Iran, Russia, Nth korea why dont they make it interesting and say Canada....

Go rent the 80's movie....Atleast it purposely made me cry.

2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP

TECH HIGHLIGHT:

Ecotec 2.0 Turbo
GM’s new turbo four-cylinder Ecotec is the company’s first gasoline-direct-injection engine in the U.S. and its highest-specific-output engine ever. The all-aluminum 2.0-liter makes 260 horsepower at 5300 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque all the way from 2500 to 5250 rpm, using 18 psi of boost from a dual-scroll turbo, an air-to-air intercooler, a beefed-up crankshaft and connecting rods, and new pistons with cast-in oil channels to keep them cool. This engine, destined for the Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Red Line, isn’t a bad first effort considering that VW’s similar direct-injection turbo — the 2.0T FSI — makes 200 ponies

(oh, and it's under 3000lbs.)

just sayin.

My favorite section from that image.... "Tell us about your tatoos: I have five. Anytime I have a feeling about anything, I get tatooed."

Apparently she has only had a feeling about something 5 times in her life.

Oh, and the part about getting a tat of her boyfriend's name (Brian) next to her "pie" is pretty funny too. She said that if she ever breaks up with him she can always have a kid named Brian so the tat can still have meaning. lol. Explain to your kid... yeah, I love you so much I tatooed my "pie" with your name on it.

Funny lady. But at least she looks good.

Just got back from seeing it and have to say it was a great movie, one of the best i've seen in a long while.

There were things that annoyed me (all the product placement, american propaganda) but it was pretty much full tilt action from go to woe, with some genuinely funny moments.

The only disappointment was going back to my car afterwards, knowing it wasn't going to transform into a kick-arse robot

Oh yeah, and that blonde Aussie chick grew up near me and was in the same class as a friend, this is her first big acting role apparently, i thought she did pretty well for someone from tiny Tassie!
( Last edited by Spook E; Jun 30, 2007 at 09:22 AM. Reason: useless info about the Aussie chick)

Yah, I like JP just fine as well. It took liberties with dinosaurs that were kinda lame, and was weak compared to the book, etc etc etc, but it was better than expected. I just liked looking at the dinos!

JP2 was on my Horryingly Bad list tho. If the statute of limitations wasn't up, I'd sue for my ticket price back and the hour and a half of my life I wasted seeing it. Not to mention punitive damages.

The Transformers (1980s) Movie is based on the television series. In this movie, the year is 2005 and the Decepticons have taken over the home planet of Cybertron. The movie introduces a new generation of Transformers, the autobot matrix of leadership, and Unicron. Optimus Prime dies and Megatron is changed into Galvatron.

The Transformers Movie (2007) is based on the original episodes of the television series. It also draws upon current comic book series storylines.

I have to wait until July 4th, 2007 but it will be well worth it since I have the day off. I think the coolest part about Independence Day was when everything was destroyed. After that I didn't care if they killed the aliens.

Saw the movie tonight and it rocked.
A few lame moments with the blatant product placements, but otherwise very entertaining.
The action is great and the CGI work throughout is probably the best I've ever seen.

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

I liked it, a great popcorn movie. And my wife, who had no idea of Transformers or their history also enjoyed it, saying it was much more enjoyable (not better but enjoyable) than any other fare this past spring/summer.

A few misses but overall an enjoyable summer flick that could have been much worse. And it was cool see Optimus Prime kick butt again and kudos to keeping the original voice as Prime.

Man, they definitely gave Peter Cullen as many cool things to say as possible.

And as indistinguishable as the Transformers bodies were, their voices weren't much better.

I could have cared if he had the voice of one of the carebears, the dude was bad ass.

Plus I really liked his new voice as well as megatrons. I thought the cop car had the coolest voice though.

Not only that, but in the Seinfeld episode where Kramer gets mugged after winning at the track, he's the mugger.

Died of drugs or something else typically Hollywood a while back, though.

Think about how Spiderman 3 and Superman Returns looked that cost twice as much.

What? Do you even remember Soundwaves?

It was nothing like him, apart from the fact that it transformed into a stereo system for a few minutes.

Soundwaves was a loyal, humanoid, "uncharismatic bore". Not a little gremlin-thing.

That thing in the movie wasn't Soundwaves, nor was it meant to be.

He hacked in the computers using sounds and he turned into a stereo for a bit so that is as much soundwave as megatron is a alien jet.

Just got home from seeing it. If you don't go to the nearest theater right now and see this movie, you're doing yourself a huge disservice. I don't care if you have a 60" plasma at home. You'll still tell yourself you wished you'd seen it on the biggest screen possible.

Oh and comparing this movie to ID4 is one of the worst things I've ever heard. The movie schits all over ID4. They're not even in the same league.

Best of all, it wasn't just eye candy either. It's really well written.

One of the best movies I've seen in a long, long time.

I'm not seeing this movie. I think it'll be more annoying than the chase scene in the Matrix Reloaded, where EVERY freaking vehicle is GM this or GM that, all shiny and new. The only cars in that movie that weren't GM were really old and decrepid. Product placement at it's worst.

I religiously follow autoblog, which has covered the movie since it was just a glimmer in Micheal Bay's eye. I was pumped about it, I loved my transformers and still have all of them in a box. They were the only toy from my childhood I never sold. Then I watched teasers. Then trailers. And the more I saw, the more dissappointed I became. Yes, there is an OLD 1988-91 BMW 5 series, and an OLD 1980s nissan/toyota pickup. Sure, there are a few 'other cars', but ALL of these cars are rusted POSs from the 80s, and none were in good condition. Why?

Because GM wants to portray all ITS cars as the ONLY shiny new models in this movie, and is basically subliminally saying that ALL OTHER marques are old, rusty, and crappy.

That annoys me. I'm not paying money to see a gigantic advertisement for shitty cars.
