I bought a new 1ghz g4 tower about 5 months ago now, with 10.2.3 it was reasonably stable, with 10.2.6 it crashed 1-2 times a day, i just thought upgrading to panther would solve the problem, but ive already had two crashes in less than two days of light use. Ive tried removing RAM, repairing permissions, scanning the hard drive, Re-zeroing the hard drive etc, but it still crashes. I think ive found the latest crash in the console, is this something wrong with my hardware?

I don't think that's your crash, since iirc it's normal for system startup. Have you checked the logs for kernel panics?

Crash logs can be found at /Library/Logs/ on your start-up disk, there should have a file named "panic.log".

btw: I dont have any kernal panic since 10.2.5 update.

Good luck.

What kind of RAM do you have?
We have a Dual 1.42 that will only run on the ram from Apple. We have tried 3 other brands and when the 3rd party ram is in there, same problems you are talking about.

well there wasn't a panic.log until a second ago when i had my first kernel panic, the crashes im experiencing are very differnt, everything just freezes up for no apparent reason and i have to reset the mac.

Im really not sure what memory im using it was upgraded from 256 to 512 at the store i bought it from (macwarehouse), but I have tried removing the second chip of ram before and it still crashed under 10.2.6.

I do have an applecare plan so i guess ill be ringing them on monday.

Did you ever tried to reset NVRAM/PRAM? That will fix the problem in some case, I hope it will work with you too.

Steven.
