Do you think MS will ever release drivers that will support the Intelli Mouse Explorer? Boy are CO. slow in releasing what would be considered basic drivers.

They claim to be working on them. I'm told 10.1 supports the scroll wheel in the Finder (finally). Right now all 5 buttons work in a few games (the new Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer demo for one). My guess is that we might see drivers as soon as this weekend (with the official rollout of 10.1) since they just updated their drivers for OS 9.x.

I just wish they'd let us know roughly when the drivers will be available. I'm just about ready to throw out my intelliMouse and buy a Kensington or Logitech.

I asked Microsoft through their product suggestion and feedback links when and if OS X drivers would be available. They gave an absolutely inane response telling me to contact technical support if I required assistance in locating the Intellipoint driver software.

I don't understand how their programmers can manage to come up with an entire Office suite 6 months after OS X is released, but they can't manage to program a new driver for their mice.

The author of USB Overdrive has been saying for more than a year that he plans to port his driver over to OS X, and IMHO, this is a much better solution.

Yeah, that's what I did !!
Bought the Kensington "Mouse in a Box Optical Pro".

Unfortunately, the driver for OS X is not at all as mighty as the Kensington driver for 9.1. And in my opinion, the driver for MS ItelliExplorer under 9.1 is even better than the Kensington.

In addition, I find the Kensington mouse quite less usable. You often do unwanted clicks with the side-buttons, and the whole mouse is really hard to pick up and re-move while working with it.

I like the IntelliExplorer much more and will stick to it. Hopefully the OS X driver will be worth waiting for it.

So far,

I'm pretty sure the Microsoft Drivers are based on USB overdrive so I would not expect one much sooner than the other.

I echo your thoughts. I've got both mice and the Kensington is on my PC. Even with the Kensington drivers out, I prefer the Intellimouse . The Kensington feels more solid but I'm always hitting the side buttons because it's so difficult to pick up. Also the drivers for the Kensington mouse can't emulate keystrokes so they're pretty useless to me.

I think otherwise. The OS 9 drivers were based on USB overdrive. Also, I doubt that Microsoft is waiting by and by for a shareware developer to finish something before they approach him about buying code.

The scroll wheel did work in the IE 5.1 but nowhere else in 10.04
I have confirmed that the scroll wheel works in the finder now! Nice.

Dude lets set this straight...

The author of USB Overdrive was hired by MS to write the drivers for 9..

They didn't by his code they bought his time...

All the support was not there in 10.0.x for proper support so MS decided to wait for the same reason it is taking ages for overdrive for X to appear.

In x.1 supossedly the HUI manager works so gamepads will work again..

So... just wait and see but I am sure MS will hire him again as they have nobody with the expertise he has in this area.

This is my view on it anyway

Cheers Edd
