I just recently acquired a Mac Pro 1,4 with these specs:
2.93 Ghz Quad-core, single CPU, 8GB ram, 2-1TB drives, 2-640GB drives. Nvidia GT120 512mb video.

I have another Mac Pro 1,1 which has an ATI Radeon XT1900XT, should I swap out the GT120 for this card? Also this Mac Pro 1,1 has two DVD drives, but I can't use it because they are PATA and the Mac Pro 1,4 uses SATA DVD drives, rats!.

Any advice on the video card? swap, yes or no?

AFAIK, the Nvidia GT120 does not work with the Mac Pro 1,1.

rats, that may affect my plans. But even so, how does the GT120 compare to the XT1900XT? better, or the same? both are 512mb vram.

Without a set of benchmarks to compare the two, its hard to say. The 1900 is top of the line whereas the 120 is entry level but several years newer. I'd guess there isn't much in it.

Optical drives are cheap if you really want a second one. Like $20.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

GT120 is a rebadged 9500 GT, which seems to be two bins below the X1900 XT.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

i replaced a gt120 with a gtx275 and saw a huge improvement across the board, i think the gt120 was a bad call on apple's part

Looks like I would need to make some tweaks in the System to get a gtx275 to work on a Mac Pro?
